Dick's Story
Life
Hi Classmates, where ever you are. . .
After high school graduation I attended Oklahoma State Tech. I then moved to Tulsa and lived there from 1960 to 1964. I worked in the back shop of a printing company in Tulsa until I realized that I much more enjoyed working out front with the public and wearing a white shirt and tie.
I moved to Southern California (Orange County) in 1964 and worked as a bank officer for the next 20 years (public and white shirt/tie). I got married in 1966 and our final divorce was in 1985. I say final, as we went through three divorces before I moved back to Tulsa to make sure it didn't happen a fourth time.
I am very blessed with my wife, Susan. We got married in 1992 and have certainly had a ball ever since. We both travel with our jobs and when the travel location is to a nice and sometimes exotic location, the other of us works it out so that we both get to experience the trip. The places we have been together in the USA are numerous and for sure the trips to Hawaii, Europe, St Thomas, Cancun and Aruba were always exotic and special.
My wife is Italian and speaks the language as well. Because of her language abilities, we are able to take trains and buses to many small towns not visited by hordes of tourists. In 2002, Susan and I again went to Italy and our classmate, Susan Townley Foster, went with us. It was her first time in Italy and we got her involved with Italian locals in several towns. And the food was spectacular. We did not find a restaurant we didn't like. I will say that as always, a big portion of our Italy travel ...Expand for more
budget is spent on food. Susan T. ate several new food items that she found to be cooked in superbly Italian manner.
Since that trip we have been back to Italy in 2006 and 2009. The 2009 trip also took us to Sicily and Ireland. For sure we want to go back to Ireland. It is so green and the cattle are fat from all the grass that is available in the fields. Everyone we met were very friendly and open to talk to us. I am always amazed at how much knowledge Europeans have of our government and what's going on in America. I feel that I need to brush up and current USA events before I make a trip to Europe because somebody with every trip we make ask us many questions about what is currently going on back home. Maybe I should subscribe to USA Today (I'm joking).
My wife, Susan, and I have a fun business off to the side doing murder mystery dinner parties. Susan writes the mysteries and we host the party for companies. Also, I have developed a website for the Class of '58 and have several pages of interest to our classmates. I have biographies and photo gallery pages, a class roster, a Memorial page, and others.
I found it necessary to retire January, 2008. I wasn't quite ready to retire but some house building problems in Tennessee required me to put more time monitoring the builder than should have been necessary. So, instead of causing problems with my long time customers and my employer, I called my boss and resigned my 22 year job. I really liked my job and hated that I had to leave.
Take care classmates, see you at the next reunion whenever that is,
Dick Cowan
