Dick's Story
After graduating fromUCLA in 1966 I went in to the Air Force. I joined as an oficer, and went to pilot training in Del Rio, Texas. After being there for a couple of months my girlfriend of two years, and I became engaged. We were married shortly before Christmas 1966 in Long Beach.
After graduating form pilot training in October 1967, I went to Da Nang, Vietnam to fly F4's.That was a long year. In 1969 I was assigned to Travis AFB near San Francisco. I was now flying C141's; a cargo plane going primarily to Southeast Asia.
In 1972 I departed the Air Force, and moved to Orange County. I received my MBA from Southern Illinois Univ the same day I got out of the Air Force.
For the next 33 years I was in the retail new car automobile business. The 19 years prior to retiring was spent as the general manager at Long Beach Honda. Yes, everyone in the family still drives Honda's. I still have my 1979 Pontiac Trans Am, as well as my BMW 1150R motorcycle.
We have two sons aged 40 and 37. The older one lives close to us in Irvine. Our grandchildren are Jake aged 9 and the princess Katrina 7. I am not biased, but they are about the smartest kids I know. My wife Karen (44 years) retired from the Cypress School District after 20 years as an elementary school teacher.
We also have a home in Running Springs, and enjoy the small amount of time we can spend there. We live in Irvine on Woodbridge's south lake. It's...Expand for more
fun sitting on the deck watching the ducks.
Both of our sons graduated from UC San Diego in La Jolla. Our younger son moved back to Irvine, and now lives 1/2 mile from us. He has been married for 5 years, and has a 2 year old son.
Once the kids were in college we began traveling on our own as time permitted. We normally went on a couple of cruises a year. Since retiring we have been able to spend more time away. We have been to lots of countries around the world. Our next big trip will be a 28 day cruise from Rome to Singapore. It goes thru the Suez Canal, and has stops in Dubai, Egypt, India, Oman, etc. We are looking forward to seeing the Taj Mahal.
In Feb 2010 we went on a 14 day cruise from Miami down the Amazon to Manaus, Brazil. We had a great time seeing much wildlife. The highlight was a midnight trip on the Amazon looking for aligators. I was on a small canoe holding 6 people. The guide held a flashlight looking in the reeds for the aligators red eyes. He found several, and got a few in the canoe. They were only about 24' long, and really interesting to hold. All in all quite an experience.
Last November in Sedona I very skillfully tripped, and broke my ankle. The surgery on 11/8 went well. This was after having one hip replaced in March. Yes, I am making good use of my Medicare card (while it still works).
i would not even consider living in another country than the USA
