He spent his first year at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln; where he played football as outside-linebacker for the 1991 Big Eight Champions. Davis was placed on academic probation after his first year of college, dropped out his sophomore year, and transferred to Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Davis graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Mass Communications in 1996. During his matriculation at Southern University, Davis turned a spell of bad experiences around and was recognized in 1995 by the American Society of Newspaper Editors, (ASNE), in which he was selected to attend the conference held in Dallas as a student reporter. During the conference, he covered various national speakers, Cornell West, as well as guest speakers, former President Bill Clinton, and Canada's Prime Minister Jean Chretien. During another internship as a sports writer for The Louisville Courier-Journal in Kentucky. During his internship, he had the opportunity to meet and talk with former professional boxing champion Muhammad Ali. Davis was also responsible for the overall news coverage and staffing of the Atlanta Brave's bid for the World Series in 1996. In 1997, he moved back to Omaha and changed his profession to Information Technology, (IT). While Davis' avocation for journalism...Expand for more
continues with occasional stints such as working as a radio news anchor at the former radio station WOW Country, information technology has continued to be his vocation for the past eight years. Information technology has brought many opportunities to him from consulting to management. As a former IT manager for the Journal Broadcast Group and manager of the Sports department for The Union-Recorder, the experience Davis acquired in both fields allowed for a smooth and successful transition. With over eight years working in the IT industry; five years as a lead in assigned areas of customer support and three years of management experience, it has been the last two years of Davis' career that have been the most exciting as well as challenging. Davis has worked with the Omaha Public Power District, (OPPD), as a Network Control Specialist. His primary responsibilities are to design, implement and maintain complex data communications networks. Academically, Davis is currently training for this final level of certification as a CCIE, Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert. He also holds specializations and certifications in 8 various areas of his field to include a focus in product and sales positioning. There are only 8,000 CCIEs in the world and 3,500 in the United States. Less than three percent of Cisco certified engineers have obtained this designation. Despite being a 2004 graduate of OPPD's Mentoring for Success program as well as being accepted into the Executive MBA program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, he has opted to leave OPPD and pursue his dream of being an international consultant that delivers high-end business technology solutions worldwide.
