Dierdre's Story
My life has been spent mostly around animals. In the seventies and early eighties I bred, trained, and showed Arabian horses. Then when I got divorced I gave up the business and went looking for a new career. I started selling memberships at a health and racquetball club. After a few years I owned the business and ran it with a partner for three years. Then I wanted to buy him out, but that didn't work out so we closed the club. I got married again in 1993 and stayed home for seven years. Once again I got divorced and went looking for a job. Again I was attracted to a job with animals. I started working as a receptionist for a veterinary...Expand for more
clinic. After a while the doctor decided to train me as a veterinary technician. At that time I found I had a special rapport with cats and was able to save several kittens the doctor thought would die. I became known as the Cat Whisperer. I left that clinic and am now working for Dr. Ingmire, who was voted the best vet in North America in 2009. Now I get to spend my days with the animals and I love it.
I retired from the clinic and work part time at a charming little garden center near my home. It's only a few months out of the year and the owners are a lot of fun. It gives me time to do things I couldn't do when I was working full time.
