Dixie's Story
In 1974, I divorced husband #1. He was kicking my four-year-old son across a room and I was determined this was not going to happen twice. It didn't.
In 1975, I moved to Houston, met a rather handsome man who was a dancing student at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio where I was teaching. He liked to watch movies on the weekend and so did I. I came down with a serious allergy attack and he took me to his apartment and fed me chicken soup until I got better. We married in November, 1975. We had a daughter, Shea, in 1977. He died in Amarillo from cancer and heart disease in December of 1984.

a little over 23.5 years. We had a daughter in 1988, who is an artist of sorts. He died October 2, 2008, in our driveway while I was trying to get him to the emergency room.
My older daughter has written a book, which was exciting. I was at her signing party with her, which shocked some folks...but I am her biggest fan and admire her spunk for sticking it out.
I just enrolled in a Creative Writing class and have met some remarkable characters. I do feel like I've lived in a cave for the last thirty years, so I'm breaking out a bit. Baby steps, Dixie.
I'm looking forward to that 45th class reunion. I'll be looking for you.
