Don's Story

After squeaking through high school and a couple years at Clark studying engineering and electronics, I began a 28 year career with the natural gas pipeline (Williams Northwest Pipeline - formerly El Paso Natural Gas) that serves the pacific northwest as an automation and controls technician, and later an assistant district manager in the Puget Sound area. I decided to retire early in 1999, but in 2003 elected to rescind my retirement to return to my former position chasing electrons and herding molecules. So now I have over 38 years there, indicating just how easily entertained I am. In June of 2013, I retired for good. My bride of 15 years and I have 20 acres near Corvallis, Montana and are starting my second retirement. We moved to our place to enjoy a much more sane life; watching the horses frolic with the Mule Deer and the sage brush grow. The sky in Montana is big! We often sit on the back porch and watch the Bitterroot Valley views change during course of the day, witness the hawks, owls, sparrowhawk...Expand for more
s and osprey ride the currents hunting for dinner, and then marvel at the busy night sky when the sun goes down. It's been busy getting the ranch and house up to speed; building fences, "weather-proofing" the barn, hanging pictures and unpacking, but we are really enjoying it! In 2004, I purchased a 1953 Ford F500, ton and a half Nebraska farm truck and am now in the latter stages of its frame-off restoration/rebuild. My one son completed (March 2009) his undergraduate studies at the UW with a degree in Informatics...yeah, I'm not sure what it is either, but it somehow coincides with his passion for computers, coding, collecting and manipulating massive quantities of information...some useful, some not so much. He is working as a code jockey for a Seattle compensation consultation firm, and is engaged to a very lovely girl, living in West Seattle. Currently, we have one horse (planning on a second), and one cat, with no plans to divert our full attention from her when we're in the house with another house pet.
