Don's Story
Well, I've been putting this off for a couple of weeks now. My story from point A to point B, the condensed version. I am still in the glass Industry, which started in 1974 at Dick's Rancho Glass (still in business) in August of 1983 I got married to a gal with a 4 year old son, Brandon (my best buddy). I went to Milgard Windows in R.C.the same year as a contract salesman, I did pretty good there. 1985 Gary Milgard(owner) asked me to start-up a new facility in Hollister,CA . This was one of the most challenging and rewarding times of my life. 1984 my son was born, Tyler ( he's an exact copy of me but, better looking ) now living in Phoenix,AZ with my 22 mo. grandson, Louchlin. Still living in Hollister during Loma Preta earthquake ( I was at the Giants /A's world series game at Candlestick) 1989 was the year of my divorce. I bought a pair of Breeding Ostriches with a partner, I also bought a vacation house in Springfield, LA. right on the water of Blood creek which drains into lake Ponchartrain. This was a great deal 1700 sq ft 3bd/2ba 90' of bulkhead property w/35' boatslip w/drydock, 40'x 60' boathouse (covered patio area w/a sink & waste plumbed in)I bought this property for $25K from the bank ...Expand for more
so my dad could retire there. He was born in Pochatoula LA. He's still living in Rancho with my mom. 1990 I started a business in Modesto brokering Building materials and installing windows, sold that for a profit and moved back to Sacto. Selling windows for various companies with territories from Redding to Fresno-Tracy to Carson City, Reno & Las Vegas. 1994 I bought a sprint car( big wing on top open wheels race on a dirt oval)and became an owner/driver. This was the biggest thrill of my life, the rush was so incredible every race. I remarried in 1999 and gave up racing in 2001. That's when I became a journeyman commercial glazer, and still am. Nov.2008 was a life altering experience, I had double bi-pass surgery with a couple of complications I spent 13 days in the hospital. This was my 1st time hospitalized in my life, and I hated every minute of it.
Today, I live life a little different, I take care of myself and enjoy the moment, leaving the stress to someone else. Now, living in Citrus Heights I look foward to NASCAR season, a Blues Artist playing somewhere local, camping w/friends, cooking a new dish and enjoying a really good red wine.
That's pretty much it, I hope to here from some of you.
