Don's Story

Rather Than Calling This My Story Lets Simply Call it My Song Story sounds like so much Fiction, of which this is not. -------------------------------------------------------------- Lets see, I live on Lake freeman in Monticello, Indiana You might of heard of Indiana Beach White Trash Anusement Park, Thank God its on Lake Shaffer ! My Brother and myself have Winter home on Island inside Everglades National Park, Near marco, Island, Florida. Almost 20 years ago I moved to Monticello from Chokoloskee Isl. FL -- I had always hung on to my Guitars/Amp/ Etc simply because I didn't think at the time, I qwould ever be able to Buy the same gear again ! - and it looked COOL , used as furniture. I sought out a Senior in Monticello HS Graduation Pics in the newspaper simply because he was posing with a guitar, Then I met his brother, and a couple friends of his, and we are -Thozeguys--loud--original - In your face-- takin no prisoner's-- Rock Music --- We Made a couple CD's, recorded at The Lodge Studios in Indianapolis, Played all over the land. And thru nuthing but only dumb luck got hooked up with The Famous Band - Bad Company - On Their Tour ------ Lots and Loads of Fun and Very Cool Also ------ for nearly 15 years, Thats what I've done ! ******************************************** Looking back, I can remember as clearly as if it were yesterday, a Sunday evening , that some say, was a a major turning point in history as well as a marker in time when our society took a turn in the opposite dire- ction , somewhat distribing and quite foreign form the norm of those days. Others will say that Sunday evening is when society drove straight off a cliff at 100 m p h and is still to this day trying to climb back to road it was on. That Sunday evening turned out to be moments I'll never forget. ------ That was when Ed Sullivan first introduced to us those four unique young lads from Liverpool, Engaland. ---- The Beatles ----- and The World is still trying to recover from that day ! My Uncle RK Shull had a Beatles Promotional sweatshirt that he got thru his job which had images of the four Beatles on front and back, I don't recall why, but he gave it to me on that Sunday. Who was I, at that moment to understand the tribulations that had d...Expand for more
ecended upon us, and still lacking edcuation I made the mistake of wearing that sweatshirt to Carmel Elementary to School, the very next day ! Mr Irvin was The Principal at the Elemantary School. No student will ever forget that Mr. Irvin always had "The infamous Paddle" in the back pocket of his slacks covered by his sports Jacket. I have good memories of Mr Irvin, he's a good man., except if you had to go to his office, which was the size of a modern closet, and whatever that stuff was he put on his hair, would just about fumegate us 3 -1/2 ft yr. olds., it was bad ! That Monday morning after The Beatles Comet crashed into Earth, Mr Irvin dispensed with normal morning announcements thru the intercom, ya see, he had a much bigger issue at hand to deal with that day, thusly he proceeded to go room to room and give all of us his heartfelt and direct, and despirate, "Were NOT Gonna Have Any of This Beatles S _ _ _ Speech, and the vacent word was NOT * Song* Unfortunately for me there I sat in my Beatles sweatshirt. and in that era I refer to as "The Middle Mayberry Ages" most all my peers had Flatops , and Burr, Hair Styles , that means NO hair . Mine was somewhat longer, maybe a quarter inch, and never was an issue untill them Beatles came along and screwed it all up. I was sent home for a haircut and to rid my body of that Blasphemes sweatshirt. A couple years went by and these other radicials called "The Monkees" diverted our minds away from them Beatles for a small amount of time and gave The Establishment time to re-group, however it was too late, and they have been on the run ever since. Shortly thereafter and to this day I recall this story, and tell it to anyone that'l listen. and Mr. Irvin ,I mean you no disrespect, but looking back, I can say , you were wrong, and yes we did, have That Beatles Song. I wonder how Mr Irvin would react now, as well as my reaction would have been in Sixth Grade if one had said that nearly half a Century from now, that I, to this very day, am still trying, the best that I can. to be a Beatle. -----I guess someones gotta do it ! ! I could keep on, going on But for right now, I'll call this is My Song. Don Blackwell
