Don's Story

I was born in Detroit but raised in Warren, Michigan. I attended Ladd Elementary School, for K but transferred to St. Mark's Elementary School for grades 1 to 6. I attended Busch Junior High School for grades 7 to 9, and then graduated from Center Line High School in 1977, I got my B. S. in Business Administration from The University of Detroit in 1981. I worked for various companies around the Detroit metropolitan area until I formed my own company in 1989. When I sold my company in 1992, I was able to retire early, so I moved to Arizona. I found a great Christian church in Phoenix and became a lay missionary. At first, I only went on short-term mission trips with groups from the church, but then I committed to full-time missionary work in 2010 when I felt called to move to Panama to work with the indigenous people there known as the Ngäbe-Buglé. Two of my adopted sons and I (I have 3 natural children and 8 adopted ones!) actually DROVE to Panama from the USA. That was quite the adventure! From being robbed by the Mexican policia the first night we were in Mexico, to passing two active volcanos, to "meeting" the only known freshwater sharks in the world, to eventually living ON a volcano in Panama . . . I wouldn't trade those memories for the world! I like almost any kind of music (except Rap.) Books I like include anything by Ray Bradbury, anything on History, including historical fiction, and the Holy Bible. TV shows I like include: whatever looks interesting on Hulu, Netflix, or Pure Flix. (I can see anything from American TV here by using a VPN). One of my favorite quotes is: "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." I love living in Chile just a few kilometers from the Pacific Ocean with my beautiful...Expand for more
Christian wife Marcelita. We met when I was serving as a lay missionary in Panama. She was visiting her best friend who happened to be my dentist, I had a toothache, and the rest is history, as they say! Our son Joselito and his wonderful wife Belen have just given us our eleventh grandchild! Your North American Summer is our Winter here, and your Winter is our Summer here, but with the moderate Mediterranean climate we have all year long, who cares?! I've been blessed to have been able to travel all over the world. I've been throughout the North and South American continents including many Caribbean Islands, to Austria, Ukraine, and other European destinations, to Japan, Thailand, and Nepal. I haven't been to Australia or New Zealand yet, but they are definitely on my bucket list, as are Israel, Greece, and Italy. I'd also love to visit the counties of my ancestors (according to what I discovered on Ancestry.com) that include Ireland, Scotland, France, and Poland. I'm awaiting my DNA test results to see from where else I might be, but I have already confirmed I have at least one Algonquin ancestor from my French Canadian ancestors who first came to the New World in the late 1500s or early 1600s. My Irish and Scottish relatives also came to Canada first before my father's parents finally immigrated to the USA (separately - they met and married in Detroit). Always remember to do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and if you have not already done so, and because our time here is literally running out, ask the Lord Jesus Christ to come into your heart. He will become your Lord and Savior and we'll get to see each other again at the Resurrection even if we never get to see each other again on Earth. God bless you!
