Don's Story
Life
After graduating in 73 I enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served for 6 years. The Navy sent me to medical school after basic training. I was assigned to a helicopter carrier and was attached to a medivac helicopter squadron. Our squadron was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for rescuing a Marine squadron off Hia-Phon Harbor in Vietnam in December of 73. After leaving the military I used my medical skills and worked for Denver General Hospital for 7 years as a paramedic but I never gave up on my dreams and goals of becoming an elementary school teacher. I've been teaching 3rd and 4th grade for the past 12 years. I've been married twice...the first lasting 6 months and then 2 years later remarried and was married for 18 years. I'm now divorced. I have 2 great wonderful children. My son Weston is 11 years old and plays every sport imaginable but has no desire to play pro sports but does want to coach. My daughter Savan...Expand for more
ah (with one n) plays Volleyball, Softball and is thinking of playing Basketball for Wheatridge High School. She has nothing to do with cheerleading at all. Her High School softball team has gone to 3 State Championships in a row only to be defeated this past year (heartbreaker). I've lived a very normal but productive life. I've done everything I've ever wanted to do as far as occupations (except to be a U.S. Navy pilot) but my vision wasn't acceptable!!! I continue to travel the United States as much as possible and now writing Denver and Colorado History books for 3rd and 4th grade children hoping to have them accepted by the Colorado Schools. In all my years of teaching Denver/Colorado History I haven't found suitable literature and research for the state's curriculum so my principal said for me too do it and he would approve it...maybe there will be money involved!!! Well that about does it...hope to hear from you all!!!
