Don's Story

Well, did a short stint at the U.S. Naval Academy and in the Navy. Then off to Israel to install electrical generators on the Jordanian border. Got my Associate of Science in Business Management and Bachelor of Science in Accounting at New Hampshire College. Owned a small chain of stereo stores, got married and had two children. Got divorced and moved to Florida. Had a small accounting practice and worked for county government. Met my current wife, a Canadian gal. Then went to Stetson University College of Law and had my third boy between final exams in my last semester. Got my CPA certificate and admitted to the bar and had both a CPA and law firm. Decided to retire and wife wanted to move back to Toronto so off we went. Retirement was short. New vocation, developing a consulting a firm offering U.S. international tax planning and compliance services to professional firms whose clients need such services whether north bound or south bound. Founding director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Canada, vice-president and Chair of the Ontario Chapter. Past member of the Republicans Abroad Canada and if that's not enough just completed my certification in mediation services so will be developing a new business in that growing field. No grandchildren yet. My youngest is just getting ready to graduate and is deciding to either go to grad school and law school or skip grad school and go directly to law school so, I guess I've got to keep going for a few more years. [update] He has gone off in a different direction. He turned done a Master's program and ha...Expand for more
s gone back to get a degree in accounting and wants to get into my racket - tax. He wants to go to law school after getting his certification so I guess the leaf does not fall far from the tree. In between everything, developed my photographic skills concentrating in black and white and taught photography classes and still use a medium format camera as my tool of choice. [update] Well, this month (Sept. 09) I decided to chase a depressed desire to learn guitar so bought myself one and start lessons at the end of the month. For those who knew me, you may remember I could not sing, hold a note, read music nor understand the scales so this is a really big challenge for me at this time of my life. I've not been back in Portsmouth since the late '80s. The city had changed quite a bit from my youth. I still have family there. Rene and Gary Levy who own the State Street Discount House, one son and my ex-wife Darby (f\k\a Jenkins, PHS class of (68) and some cousins. 3 sons: oldest, Jacob is a prof. at McGill in Canada, Aaron is into the arts and designed and built instruments used by The Blue Boys and, youngest, David after 3 degrees in Poly Sci, Philosophy and Business is now following in my footsteps, an accountant. I do miss Moe's Sandwich Shop, never found a better sandwich anywhere. Well, went into retirement after contracting colon and liver cancer. Surgeries appear successful but a number of complication from the surgeries are continuing issues. On the other hand, I lost 150 lbs during my illness; have put some back on and weigh what I did in high school.
