Don's Story
I was one of our class of '61's worst students. After my Junior year, I went to Alaska and ran a commercial fishing boat by myself. This will be my 61st year fishing and operating my own boat in Alaska. I attended Everett Junior College sporadically while working on a Snohomish County road crew and joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1964. My boot camp was in Alameda, CA and then I completed Aerographers Mate (weather) school in Lakehurst, NJ. I served at the Coast Guard Air Station in Port Angeles, WA until 1970. I graduated from Central Washington State College in 1969.

ters degree in Criminal Justice. A panic attack brought a halt to that just short of my goal. I didn't like driving myself crazy.
I married Linda Mortensen (Shoreline HS "64) in Naknek, Alaska in 1973, We exchanged vows and vowels. We have 2 sons, 4 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 2 foster grandchildren.
This year (2022) our class of '61 will have our 61st reunion on 6/1 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts. Please attend. This will also be my 61st and final season commercial fishing in Alaska. Do you remember that Roger Maris hit 61 home runs in 1961?
I enjoy sports, table tennis, friends, kids, animals, nature, old people and my wife. I enjoy life, It's a great way to pass the time away.
