Don's Story

I was born in Parkersburg in the 1930s In those early years my grandfather owned the marina at the point, as it is called at the present time,My uncle Floyd worked at Blennerhasset Island, as a caretaker untill WW-Two, Then ended up in Noth Africa as a Mechanic And Machine Gunner on a Half Track. The Point was a beautiful small park, green grass launching area, side walk and 7or 8 benches, a nice gathering place for the local residents.Large passenger Excursion boats docked in the area, as did the Show Boats, Each carried a Callope, a large loud steam organ on the open rear deck. The music could be heard miles away. Got carried away, as you can see I loved growing up in a small community. I attended Park G.S.1938 thru 43. I was Lt.& Capt. Patrolboy, PHS 43 thru 47, finished at Timken Voc.H.S. in1949, Canton, Ohio. I was an apprentice at ...Expand for more
the large Timken Roller Bearing Co, KOREAN WAR came along, Navy says "I want you". Went to several schools, was assigned to Flight Crew on a A-26 Attact Light Bomber as a 2nd Mech. Was married to a lovely Florida girl for 34 years, 2 children (girls). Worked at Eastern Air Lines, later, US.Govt, and advanced to EXEC. VICE PRES. of a Union. Quiet and caring. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Bill Kurtz (1949), because He was my closest and best friend in grade school and through most all of High School. My current age is 79. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be long gone. I was so completely ignorant of so many health and disease problems of the elderly. In 10 years, I hope to be in heaven, with my first wife and two daughters. I'm going to get there by a group of beautiful angels all in white..
