Don's Story
After graduation, I went to work as an heavy equipment operator. I worked on most of the major freeways in the Los Angeles area.
In "65" I was drafted as most of our class. I served 2 years in the Marine Corp, 13 months in Viet Nam.
I was very blessed, coming home with all my body parts.
In 1968 I went into business for myself, I purchasing a Backhoe and truck. Doing rental work, and finally obtaining my contractor license, to contract work.
I was also married the same year, that marriage lasted 28 years, She had 4 children, which I adopted, we had a child together, and also we adopted one of our grandchildren.
In 1981, I quit the construction Industry, and went into caring for the developmentally disabled. That was a 24/7 job as they lived with me.
I expanded to 4 homes, and hired people to run them for me, I was the administrator. I believe I had a high of 28 people at one time.
I enjoyed my job and working with the people.
After my first wife and I divorced, we spit up all the properties.
In 1998 I remarried, then in 1999 we moved to Oregon.
My 2nd wife had a young girl too. I adopted her.
In 2000 my wife and I open a home in...Expand for more
Grants Pass, Oregon. In 2006 we opened a 2nd home.
Then in 2008, I just couldn't do it anymore, so, I retired.
Since then, to keep active, I have worked for a Firefighters mobile kitchen catering service, and a mail order company known as Harry and David, out of Medford Oregon.
My 2nd wife and I are separated. That marriage lasted 14 years.
So, with all that said, I've been blessed with pretty good health. I've had a couple of surgery but feeling great.
I have 7 Children, 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Two of my children live in the San Diego/ Lakeside area. One in Rosamond (just north of Lancaster, whom I'm living with at the present) and three more in Missouri and another daughter is still in Oregon.
I have 2 brothers that still live in Lakeside, and a sister in Montana.
I can't believe it's been 50 years since graduating. Where has time gone??
I've had a good life, and not many things would I like to change. I expect to be around for many more years, unless of course the Lord calls me home.
