Biography
Don Newby has been a Sales and International Business Development executive for the past 35 years and has a broad background in New Business Development, Marketing, Strategic Planning and Sales Management.
DonâÂÂs introduction to the world of high-technology began when he worked on a number of government projects that included assignments at the Institute of Defense Analysis, Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the National Military Command Center Pentagon, Washington D.C. He was then transferred to the Kwajalein Missile Range in the Marshall Islands as Senior Systems Engineer of the large-scale real-time computer system. The Kwajalein Atoll, the largest in the world, is the primary test area for the United States strategic missile systems.
Returning to the US, DonâÂÂs career path took him into the business side of high technology. He was an investor/principle in a start-up electronics instruments and computer peripheral distribution business where he created the first ARINC 429 portable digital test instrument for the Boeing 757/767 airplane program. The innovative instrument became a multi-million dollar product. Other computer technology projects he developed and managed include the NorthwestâÂÂs first electronic funds transfer network The EXCHANGE and Portland, OregonâÂÂs 911 emergency dispatch system, the countryâÂÂs first patrol car mobile data terminal that allowed officers to check license and registration information without the need for any human intermediary. DonâÂÂs professional career includes District Manager with Consilium, Inc. a leading supplier of factory and plant floor management information systems for the semiconductor and aerospace industries. As District Manager with Megatek, he won the multimillion competitive award to provide Boeing Aerospace the real time Data Entry and Display Systems for the Royal Saudi Air Force Air Defense Command Peace Shield Program. Recently, he was International Sales and Business Development Manager with Crystal Point. Don built a worldwide distribution channel of over 25 systems integrators and resellers, developed and implemented a âÂÂGo to Marketâ strategy for four new web communications and security encryption based products and negotiated a strategic partnership and product distribution agreement with Hewlett Packard NonStop Enterprise Division.
DonâÂÂs community service includes having been an active participant with Burien Area Support for Incorporation (BASIC), two terms of elected office as a City of Burien Councilmember. During this time he served as Deputy Mayor, Chair of the Public Safety and Information Technology Committees and a member of the Economic Development & Finance and Arts Parks Recreation and Education Committee. In 2008, he was appointed by the Governor to the Alaska Way Viaduct and Seawall Replacement Stakeholder Advisory Committee that provided public advisory for a multi-billion infrastructure program to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct along the Seattle waterfront. Appointed by the Secretary of Transportation he served four years on the WSDOT-City of Seattle Alaskan Way Viaduct South Portal Stakeholder Advisory Committee. He currently serves on the Shelter Bay Board of Directors and chairs the Finance Committee.
