Don's Story
Hi Everyone!
Well, I thought I would update my pictre with the latest from my 50th birthday, and update the profile as I haven't spent any time on this site since the 30th reunion. I spend most of my time on Face Book now, so if you want to chat, etc., please look me up on that website, as I would love to hear from any of my classmates from SBHS.
Easter Sunday was yesterday, and was a blessed time, enjoying God's great love for us. I hope you all are doing well, and look forward to hearing from you. May God bless!
Don (The Dude)

Hi Folks,
This is going to be really slow as I'm adding a sentence at a time as time allows. :) Hope all of my old friends / classmates are doing well and hope the last 30 years have treated you well!
Well, I fell in love with my high school sweetheart, Davene Cox and we've pretty much been together ever since. Davene and I both ended up at the University of North Texas where she was a Health Education Major and I was a Voice Major wanting to sing Opera professionally. We were both hard headed kids and dropped out our Senior year from college and started working. I sang with some smaller Opera companies and then decided I had to make enough money to support Davene and the children we wanted, so I went to work for UPS and drove a brown truck for 17 years. Yes, I wore those sexy brown shorts for a long time. :) Davene was an LVN until our son Joshua was born in 1986 and then she stayed home and raised the kids and taught them at home. In 1999 I had a major wreck at UPS and couldn't do the work anymore. I had been working on computers on the side since 1994 so I worked on my Microsoft certifications and after a few years in the IT industry ended up working there. Daven...Expand for more
e went back to work a few years ago to help put Josh through school and finished her RN so she is now a Critical Care Nurse in Denton in the ICU department at a local hospital.
We have 2 children - my son Joshua, aged 23 and my daughter Kaitlin, aged 20. Joshua went to UNT like his old man and got a degree in Kinesiology and is now a trainer at LA Fitness in Highland Village. Katie is engaged to a young man named Jordan and they are both living in Pennsylvania and I miss my baby girl alot.
We have no grandkids yet, but are really enjoying empty nest syndrome and the extra time we have for each other now. I refused to grow up and sometimes still feel like I'm that dumb 18 year old kid in San Benito I used to be. I started singing again last year after taking several years off and finally recorded a few classical arias. If you are interested, you can hear them on my LIVE site at thedudesabode.spaces.live.com (please note the URL starts with 'thedudesabode' instead of the regular "w w w". There is a folder on the right hand side named "Dude Sings Opera" and the songs are in there.
As I think of more to add, I'll continue the story, but that's pretty much it for now. I wish you the best my old friends!
Don

03-22-08 - Deep thoughts :)
===========================
Hey Everybody,
All of these thoughts of high school remind me of the shallowness & arrogance of my youth. I'd like to take a moment here to just say that if I ever did anything back in high school to hurt or offend any of you, let me take this time to apologize 30 years late and sincerely ask for your forgiveness. My hope is that this reunion will be a time filled with laughter and the joy of seeing old friends. Take care & May God bless!
