Dona's Story

Lived in Klamath, CA from a very early age. Spent a great deal of time swimming during the summer months in the Klamath River. Moved to Crescent City, CA when I was 12 years old., until I graduated in 1961. Went to Stockton Jr College for one year and then moved to San Francisco and worked for Dunn & Bradstreet as a clerk typist. In 1963 met my husband through a classmate 'Gary Weaver' , was married in 1964 and moved to Moses Lake, WA. Worked at Samaritan Hospital for about 10 years and then went to work for 4 doctors and was there almost 10 years. The Clinic closed after all the physicians either passed away or retired. I then went to work for Blacks Pharmacy and was there for one year until my husband got transferred to Spokane, WA for his job with the Department of Ecology. I found a job for a doctor. After working for him for 10 years, he closed his practice and went to work for Group Health. I went to work for Holy Family Hospital as a medical records clerk which covered quite a bit of territory. A clerk, analyzer, re-analyzer, filer ---- and the list goes on. Worked there for 14 years until I made the jump to retire. The day I turned 65 is the day I retired. Was hard not getting up at 4:30 every morning, but that was okay, because I got to go home early in the day and had every Friday off. 3 day weekend I could handle. About 3 years ago Bud and I moved back to Moses Lake and love living by the lake. ...Expand for more
We enjoy feeding the mallards, wood ducks, geese, doves, quail and other birds that show up. Besides all the flowers beds and the garden that we have going on. We have 3 sons, and since they all live here in the same state it is easier to see them. Oldest lives in Bremerton, one lives in our home in Spokane and the other lives with us since he got laid off while working for John Deere in Illinois. For the past 6 years I have been working on my ancestry. Have finished up my mother and fathers side and had it put in a book form and bound. Am now in the process of finishing up my husband on his fathers side and this will also go into a book and be bound and then I have to finish up his mothers side and I will finally be done. Then I can work on my crocheting and reading. Just as an update since previously penning this, about 2 years ago, we bought a 20 acre farm in Elk, WA and our youngest son and his family are currently living there. We do manage to get up there a few times a year, just to check on things and of course get some fresh eggs from him. They are able to see Mount Spokane from their back deck. Quite the view. So peaceful and quiet up there and of course lots of fresh air. They got a lot of snow there last year and without him having the tractor, he would have had a hard time getting out to the main road. We are still living in Moses Lake, but thinking about moving, but who knows where. Later
