Dona's Story
I was born in Phoenix, Arizona. In elementary school, my family moved to the Los Angeles area. I attended Calahan & Northridge Elementary and then we moved to Newhall, CA. There I attended Placerita Junior High. Friends from Placerita went to Wm S Hart High School, but we moved to Woodland Hills, CA, where I attended William H. Taft High School. After high school, I attended Southern Methodist University. I was a member of Delta Gamma.
While home in Woodland Hills after my freshman year of college, I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint, "the Mormons", and have been an active member throughout my life. I have six children, who were raised primarily in Gilbert and Mesa, Arizona. In 2008, I moved with my husband, Robert B. Martin Jr, to Escondido, CA...Expand for more
. We met through our mutual hobby of growing and exhibiting roses! In Arizona, I had over 500 roses. Today in Escondido, we grow about 400 roses and are active in the local and national rose societies. We have both spoken about and exhibited roses around the United States. I also developed my photography skills and enjoy that hobby as well. I have 11 grandchildren so far and Bob has an additional two.
Music I like includes Nathan Pacheo, Josh Turner, George Strait, Willie Nelson, Andrea Boccelli, Smokey Robinson. Movies I like include Napoleon Dynamite, Phantom of the Opera & Bernie. TV shows I like include Grey's Anatomy, NCIS, Bones, CSI and 24.
My favorite quotes is:"Instead of complaining that the rose bush has thorns, be thankful that the thorn bush has roses!"
