Donald's Story

TO THE WILDCAT NATION-CLASS OF 1967 We just got back from our Danube River Cruise and we had a good time. Really enjoyed the cities of Vienna and Budapest. All of the cobblestone walks that we had earlier part of our trip caused us not to do as much independent walking around as we had in the past. Maybe I'm just getting old. I hope not LOL! We had several travel issues related to Germany's largest airport and flagship airline. Late/missed flights, multiple gate changes, tarmac deboarding and boarding on really big airplanes caused me to make a very firm resolution not to use either again if I travel in that area. The highlight of my trip was connecting with my old grade school )St. Hedwig) best friend whom I have not seen in 46-48 years, We reconnected shortly after the new year began and due to circumstances, he was in Germany at the start of our trip, We were able to get together for a little over 2 hours and it was incredible to see him and his special friend. A small trivia fact from back in the day. We were on the Holstein Park softball team that won the Chicago Parks District Juniors Championship in 1964. Great memories from then. Looking forward to building new ones. Upon coming home my wife and I celebrated our 47th Wedding Anniversary. She will eventually be nominated for Sainthood, I'm sure. We have not been blessed with children. I hope that the Good Lord will allow us to reach the big 5-0 milestone. This is my 2nd marriage. My 1st marriage to my high school sweetheart was unsuccessful and that deep regret and failure I will take with me to the next life. "Nuff said. I had some health issues last year and I'm not going to bore you with the details but I have been blessed and I know it. The docs have been happy with my health since then. Woohoo! We are talking about taking a couple of small trips this year to see my wife's family in the NE and then Chicago land area (September or October). I have discovered that a few doors down from my grandparents' old home site in Bucktown that there is B&B or hotel at the end of the street near the JFK Expressway and I would like to try that out for a couple of nights. One last trip down memory lane. To all of our Classmates who have passed away you will be missed and may you rest i...Expand for more
n peace. You are all special to me and I will always remember my times with those of us that I knew back in High School, God Bless you all. Who would have thought that our generation that was going to change the world is now well into retirement. As a Class, we have become our grandparents or our parents, whatever fits for you. So how are all of you retirees doing? I am hoping that you are enjoying the fruits of your past labor and are now free to follow your passions. For me, it has been traveling, doing some volunteering work that helps seniors with transportation issues and being a member of a civic organization that supports our Fire Department have been my main activities. I spent most of my adult life working in the Defense Industry (Aerospace) working for a couple of large companies in Supply Chain-Material Management. I also tried twice to go into business for myself and failed. Oh well. I tried. My post Tuley life has been like most of yours. There have been good times and some difficult times, but I have gotten through it like you. However, as the saying goes, "getting old isn't for sissies" is very true. I am sure that a few of you know what I mean, hahaha. One last time, I just want to thank everyone for coming into my life. I will always treasure my Tuley High School days. I particularly liked being on the Division winning Frosh-Soph Basketball team with future All State, Bob Dickinson, the Tuley Student Council and the Tuley Review. Y'all helped make me what I am as a person today. So, take the RESPONSIBILITY. You own it! LOL!!! And I still mean it! If perhaps you visit my profile, feel free to drop a quick line or two to me if you like. I will do my best to respond in a timely manner. Take care and God Bless everyone. Please stay safe. Luv ya all. GO WILDCATS!!! Your separated brother in Blue and Gold. Don Brown P.S. In case you are wondering, the first photo was taken at a local "Hallowine" Event in the nearby town of Grapevine, Texas several years ago and I was dressed as a Hippie. Deja vu all over again. LOL!!! The second photo was taken in a gift store in Norway last year from our Scandavian Cruise. I know that the Vikings did not wear horned helmets but the myth is stronger than the reality hahaha.
