Donald's Story
Let's start this story with the night I graduated. That night, I thanked my parents for taking care of me to that point in my life. It was also the last night I left home and started my own life.
In the fall, I attended the University of Connecticut in Storrs on a football scholarship. I quickly realized that I would not be able to play football and get the education I sought. After getting a new helmet every week, along with several concussions, I started to think about my alternatives.
In my sophomore year, I made some life changes. I gave up my scholarship, moved off campus, and worked full-time as a security guard (high shift). I also got married that year too. My ambition was to become a chemist, creating cool stuff in a lab. At the end of my junior year, I changed my career path and applied to the School of Engineering. A couple of years later, I graduated with a dual engineering degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (specializing ...Expand for more
in digital electronics).
I got my first job with a small consulting firm. Several years later, I was an independent consultant developing industrial control systems, access control systems, military test systems, and medical instruments.
Since that time, I have been remarried two more times. I did have two children with my second wife. They are now young adults trying to leave their mark on the world.
Recently, I changed my career path and am now working for IBM as a Technical Sales specialist. It is an exciting position in that there are many challenges that I have to deal with. It is a position that requires many skills and is never dull. There is fun and excitement every single day. The one thing I am happy about is discovering my vocation in the computer industry. I cannot believe I have been doing this for over 50 years.
I would love to hear from you because we all have something to share. If not, I do wish you all the best in life.
Later,
Don
