Katherine 's Story

Welcome. Maybe you stumbled on here by accident or you "heard things" and are curious. Read on then. Back then, you knew me as "Donald", a guy in your eyes. But for me, it never felt right. It was like wearing the wrong suit, the wrong set of clothes. I always got along with the girls, but always had a hard time trying to be "one of the guys". I tried all sorts of things. In early school life, it was best to try to be the class clown because they could horse around with the girls and not be looked on as a sissy or jerk. I later on tried to be a tough guy, thinking I had to prove to myself I was a man (since I had that kind of body). As with other male-to-female transexuals, we spend a lot of our life trying to be that "man" we were brought up to be even though it never felt right. We are NOT crossdressers, nor are we drag queens, we are not into fetishes, nor anything like any of those lthings.. We are typically heterosexual and not homosexual as we are often confused as. while generalizations can be dangerous, for the most part we are just regular, normal, straight women who had some things not develop correctly. More things on the biological front are coming out on what happened to us. There are many issues and hormonal/biological/antomically and other things to help explain things that happen. In the Air Force I became a policeman,to try to be that "guy" I was told I was. Many of us join the military or other "manly" fields of occupation. Eventually we end up confronting our true self and either try suicide, or accept who we really are. More and more, biology and other fields are finding that there IS a biological and other basis to support our contention that we really are female. Those who are a bit educated are finding this out too and are beginning to accept and support us. Mostly, women accept us the most, but the men are slowly coming around. Usually it is the less educated, more of the blue collar crowd or so, that try to hold on to old beliefs that we now find out are not valid. Unfortunately, many in the ministry never bother to study or learn about us. As far as the Bible is concerned, there is nothing in there opposed to who we are or that even addresses the topic. The typical ministers just consider us as homosexuals. We are not homosexuals, although we do align ourselves with the LGBT groups to add numbers to our cause. We are progressing today where it may have been all but impossible like a few years ago if it were not for those in the LGBT groups supporting us. While I have a great deal of straight friends, I also have a great deal of LBGT friends and to some degree they are nicer in many aspects. They are far less judgemental, willing to help virtually everyone out of a genuine kindness, and more. Most of my gay friends are my biggest defenders. And, I do not judge them. To me, they are just good friends. Same with my lesbian siste...Expand for more
rs. My gal best friend now is a lesbian and a wonderfulperson. To summarize, I was born a woman on the inside, but physically nature gave me some male parts. I have gone through my transition and am now physically, anotomically, intellectually, emotionally, and in every other aspect a female. I do not consider myself a "transwoman" anymore though we are labeled as such. I consider that I was a transexual when I was going through my transition, but now that I am passed that, I am just a woman like any other woman. I will not judge anyone and I will accept everyone regardless of their beliefs. God made all of us. I like what the American Indians call us...."Twin Spirit". One note to go along this though, I will not allow myself to be treated badly by any guy. Too many treat us badly and that has to stop. No, I'm not a radical feminist, but I am no doormat and expect to be treated fairly in everything I do. I do support equal pay for equal work, equal rights, and other things. I must say that having lived on both sides of the gender line, it has given a depth of understanding that many will never experience. . I've seen very few classmates since school due to the military service I had and all the things I've done in life, though I did try to attend reunions. Unfortunately, most of the people I hung around in high school never came to the reunions. Those that did show were nice to talk to. All gatherings I attended were from before my transition. Someday I look forward to meeting classmates as "Katherine". I have been contacting several classmates and been contacted by many and things have gone well. So, I'm looking forward to an actual reunion. I divorced my wife (for non-gender related issues) in 1995 and kept sole custody of my 4 children for 12 years until they were grown and began lives of their own. One have moved back in with me and still wants to stay here. That is nice. I love my children so much. I'm retired on disability but I do try to volunteer where I can to lend my experience. I was a successful person in the IT industry and spent 14 years in elected local office. I attained an MBA as far as education is concerned and still considering going to law school. If you knew me in High School, I'd love to hear from you. Don't be afraid to ask questions and feel free to drop me a line. I've lived a good life. I have many accomplishments, 4 great children all grown, and I am retired now. It is Katherine's time to enjoy life. ---UPDATE 10/18/2013. I had my first grandchild 3 1/2 years ago. He is from my oldest son's family. He is a very handsome grandson named Logan. My youngest daughter had a baby on 6/20/2013. She is my granddaughter and named Harley Hedlund. She is such a beautiful 4 month old baby. I love her so much. Grand children are such a wonderful gift from God !!!!!! Best wishes are sent to all of you with kids and grandkids
