Moved from Tottenville H.S.(Staten Island, NY) at end of junior year and spent senior year at North Hunterdon Regional H.S. (Annandale, NJ). Received BA from Rutgers University, an MBA from George Washington University and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the War College.
Served abroad as an officer in a U.S. Army Special Forces ("Green Berets") group from 1968-1970.
Joined the U.S. Diplomatic Corps in the early 1970's. Work areas at the State Department included European Affairs, Near Eastern Affairs, Arms Control and Disarmament and Refugee Affairs. Have traveled to/lived in over 100 countries. Retired after attaining the level o...Expand for more
f Deputy Assistant Secretary of State. Am now a consultant to the State Department and live in the Washington, D.C. area. Favorite activities are travel, poker, gardening, reading, golf and serving on the board of a local charity.
My wife, a French-American, is a retired executive of an international bank. My son Darren, a former U.S. Army Captain and Afghanistan vet, is a diplomat currently serving abroad with his Australian wife and our grandson, Owen, and granddaughter, Marie-Amelie. My daughter, Marie-Claire Mayran De Chamisso, is a psychologist living with her French husband, and granddaughter Adelaide and grandsons Ambroise and Henri in Paris.
