Donald's Story

Practiced law since 1973 after receiving Juris Doctor from University of Denver, elected State Representative for 3 terms - from central Lakewood, is Colorado (chairing the Judiciary, Legal Services , and Rules Committees, Colorado House of Representatives; elected District Attorney for 6 years - for Jefferson and Gilpin Counties (over 1/2 million people west of Denver and 2nd in size to AG public law firm with 120 employees, 44 lawyers, and 17 police investigators, and $5.8 million dollar budget), elected to the National Board of District Attorneys, chaired the Environmental Enforcement Committee. Appointed in 1983 and elected a Life Member of the Uniform Law Commission ( after 20 years serving as a commissioner at the annual meeting of the commission) which under Colorado law automatically makes the person a lifetime appointed Uniform Law Commissioner.. After 38 years still volunteering to drafting laws and in December 2021 appointed to new drafting committee to develop a Uniform Electronic Estate Planning Documentation ents. Act. Served on drafting committees for uniform acts for Athlete Agents, Commercial Real Estate Receivers, Common Interest Ownership, Controlled Substances, Civil Forfeiture for Drug Offenses, Pre-trial Detention, Emergency Volunteer Health Practitioners, Environmental Covenants, Franchising and Business Opportunities, and Victims of Crime (served as chairman), and in 2017 appointed to and ULC (2019) approved the adoption of the new Uniform Automated Operation of Vehicles Act, Taught Real Estate law at 2 community colleges and Business law at Regis University, and taught American Business Law at Lazarski University in Warsaw Poland in October 2011 and at Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University in Yerevan, Armenia in September 2015, both as a Visiting Professor for the Center for International Legal Studies (as a volunteer). also taught environmental law for the A.B.A. and the US Department of Justice. tor of the National Institute of Justice, US Department of Justice, first DA to Chair the National Environmental Enforcement Council, made up of US Attorney General, and 4 state US Attorneys, Director of EPA, 4 AGs, and 4 DAs. Quoted as the drafter of legislation, as a legislator or as district attorney for legislative intent by the Colorado Supreme Court eight times. Wrote, created and then appointed by the Speaker of the House to be a member of the original Colorado Tourism Board. Authored and help adopt two changes to the Colorado Constitution, abolished "Governor's Call" Session of legislature and added Victims of Crime. National leader to adopted "Madison's Lost Amendment", #2 of the original 12 Bill of Rights as the 27th Amendment to the US Constitution. Praticed systems engineering at General Electric Missile and Space and Martin Marrietta (both now part of Lockheed-Martin) from 1967-1973 after graduating with two B.S.E. engineering degrees from University of Michigan (Aerospace and Science) and a Masters of Engineering from Penn State University. Worked on Lance missile as a student between 4th and 5th years at Michigan, worked on Special Military Space Projects, NIMBUS weather satellites, ATS series of satellites, MOL (Manned Orbiting Laboratory, an Air force program) all at General Electric, and worked on SKYLAB at Martin Marietta as the lead systems engineer for the Rescue Mission Stowage List (SKYLAB being the first orbital workshop and the only one with a rescue capability) Worked at Martin during day and went to law school at night, and summers and graduated with day class in 3 years. Served as President, CH of Building Committees and Finance Board, Treasurer, Stewardship Board and Youth Counselor for Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lakewood, Colorado. Member Board of Directors Colorado Lutheran High School. Since retirement "down-sized" and moved, now a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Littleton. Hobbies of travel, photography, oil painting and spoiling the 5 grand children. Wife, Susan, and I have visited over 65 countries and love to travel.
