Donald's Story
Following graduation, I received 9 basketball scholarship offers, one of which was from TCU. Like a fool, I did not take that, but rather ended up at Tarleton State. Those were the most miserable two years of my life. Basketball was OK, but my social life was less than exciting. But that is another story. Those years were so bad that I left there and joined the Marine Corp. Now that was the best part of my life, even though 13 months were in Viet Nam.. Viet Nam still haunts me even today, and I often wonder if I had to choose to do that again, would I. f that Marine experience was spent in California, where I should have stayed and reenlisted. But I came back to Texas and eventually joined the Texas Department of Public Safety where I was employed for the next, rather uneventful, 30 years. All along, I have missed my Marine buddies and high school friends, so several years ago, I made efforts to locate and reunite with both those. I spend some time each year with old Marines both in California and Oklahoma. I am now retired, dividing my time between a residence in Katy and my small ranch in Lampasas County. I have rather enjoyed reuniting recently with old friends and fellow graduates still located in that area.
