Donald's Story
Life
While attending Diablo Valley College, I enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in Oct 1963. After loosing my student defferment, I was called up to active duty during the Viet Nam Conflict. My assignments included the Naval Hospital Oakland, USNS Daniel I. Sultan TAP-120 and service with the Fleet Marine Force. I attained the rank of Hospital Corpsman First Class. I was commissioned an Ensign, Navy Nurse Corps in 1970 while attending Chico State College on a Navy Nurse Corps Candidate scholarship. I graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I served in a variety of clinical, administrative and non-traditional roles as a nurse corps officer. My personal awards include the LEGION of MERIT, MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL (two awards), NAVY COMMENDATION MEDAL, NAVAL RESERVE MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL, VIET NAM SERVICE and other personal and campaign awards. I am married to Marilyn (Cohrs) and have two adult sons, Brady and Brett. I retired in 1997 and now enjoy biking, working part-time for fun and meeting new friends.
