Donald's Story

Life MY WIFES MAIDEN NAME WAS WELLER! for those confused. she put her school on mine to see who was on here. If anyone wants to communicate with her, leave a message with email and I will forward it. Completed my assignement as the Headquarters/Headquarters Company, Company Commander in Kuwait assigned to the 335th Theater Signal Command stationed at Camp Doha for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Married with 5 Kids, not all live with me. My oldest are 22, 20, 18 which live in Virginia my 7 yr old lives with her mother in Oregon and my youngest is at home in Atlanta. Still in the Reserves after almost 25 yrs of total military service for which 13 is active duty time. Presently work for Largest Defense contractor Lockheed Martin Aeronautics as a field service rep/UNIX system administator on the C-130J Hercules aircraft assigned to Little Rock AFB, AR. Well, to keep the story going. Presently getting ready to do my second tour in the middle east, this time I will be in Baghdad with the Corps of Engineers hopefully doing some great things to clean up and rebuild the country. Well, as things would turn out I didnt get to stay in Baghdad as I had orginally thought. In fact I was at Camp Victory for about a month then got ordered to go to LSA Anaconda, Balad AB where I am presently incharge of a Construction Management Section responsible for design and survey missions throughout the country. Being in Mortaritaville has been interesting and at the same time challenging to say the least. On a side note, Thanks for all the body armor, now will you all send a squire to help me get into it? I have this feeling that if I fall down, I will be like that old commercial.. I've fallen and I can't get up.... Completed my second tour, left Iraq in Sept 06 and we flew down to Kuwait. That was fun, I thought Camp Beuring was bad, but Camp Virginia is in the middle of no where as well. The worst part of coming home was I lost my mother hours before we landed at FT Dix, NJ. So what was a really great feeling soon vanished. My family got me through it and life moves on. Since redeploying from Iraq life has had strange twists with ups and downs. I spent four months in Italy working with the Italian Air Force on th...Expand for more
e C-27J, then went to work with the Marine Corps KC-130J's. Applied for a new job within Lockheed and presently working in the United Kingdom. Just after Getting to England Oct 07, I got a call that my dad was very sick, the cancer had gotten worse and on 22 Oct 2007 we lost Dad and will miss him very much. He was surrounded by his family and we choose a fitting final place for him in St Petersburg, FL. I lived in Cambridge United Kingdom from October 2007 till March 2009 when Lockheed sent me to Rhode Island. I worked in Rhode Island till I deployed to Afghanistan in August 2013. Rhode Island spoiled my sense of distance with the state line being 20 miles in either direction. Traveling more than 10 miles was too far. When I departed for Afghanistan I had an idea of who I would be working for but not exactly sure what the job would detail. I worked for the Transatlantic Afghanistan District for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as the Logistics Officer (J4). It was one of the best experiences I have ever had and there are times I wish that I was still over there. The job was high tempo with a lot of travel. Covered Kandahar, Bagram, Kabul, Ghazni with side trips to Jalalabad, Gardez, and a few other places. All together I supported 3 Area Offices and 13 resident offices that about half was closed down during my tour. Upon returning from Afghanistan I am awaiting my next assignment with Lockheed. Lockheed gave me the assignment I was wanting but short lived. I got to spend 15 months on the brand new AC-130J gunship program as one of the first field service representatives on the plane. Hurburt Field was a beautiful place, and I am looking a job down there upon my return from this deployment. Romania is a beautiful country and while I have been here, I have had the pleasure of seeing Poland for my duties. Both of these countries when we were in high school would never been on my visit list because they were behind the wall in Soviet Union. College Completed Associates in Electronics / Computer Engineering from Technical School in 1989, then wasnt till March 2000 till I completed my degree Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
