Donna's Story
I hope old friends from High School remember me as someone who was a true friend. I hope my friends from College remember me as someone who was serious about her studies, but could take time out to be a good friend.
I always wanted to be a lawyer or Judge when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were right. Nursing was a much better fit for a nurturing type personality.
The story wizard suggests I share my obsessions. Other than my grand daughter Ella, and spending time with my family, I have no true obsessions.
I blow off steam by making porcelain dolls, skiing in Colorado with friends and family, traveling, and playing with my dog Charlie- A King Charles Cavalier Spaniel). As far as travel,so far the favorite countries have been Italy, Switzerland, and Ireland. Paris - not so much! I hope to make it to Austria and Germany some day.
The wildest thing I ever did in school was in College. Two friends and I took every piece of silverware out of the cafeteria afer hours. My friend took it to his house for the weekend. Everyone at school had to eat with fingers for the entire weekend, including me ;) My frineds graduated before me, and I was left to keep the secret until I graduated. The prank is still legendary.
The 2nd wildesst thing I did was traveling with my friend to southern Arkansas in the middle of the night. We were chased for many miles by a man trying to stop us and run us off the road. We later found out the man was a serial killer and he killed another girl that night. I was scared to death to drive at night for a LONG time. The man has since been executed for his crimes.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Vicki (Fultz)Heard, because she was my best friend through thick and thin. The last time I saw her my twins were 1, their older sister was 3, and I was exhausted. We did not get to visit very much.
My best friend might tell you I am a crazy or silly person who likes to laugh, but people who don't know me very well might say I am quiet and a little nerdy. My friends at the hospital said I was very compassionate.
If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% to my church, 10% to my University, 10% to each of my children,5% to my grand daughter's college savings. The rest I would use to build a house in Colorado where College Professors, Pastors, and Missionaries could go to get away from their stressful jobs, and where I could retire eventually.
Life does not always turn out the way you expect. I thought I would stay in Arkansas, marry my high school sweetheart, and have a family. Instead I married my College sweetheart, went to nursing school while he was in medical school and had three children. After working as a nurse for many years I went back to school to get a masters degree, and now I teach at the same nursing schoo...Expand for more
l that I attended.
My daughters and their husbands graduated from the same college that my husband and I graduated from. The oldest daughter, Rachel, a nurse, is married to Jimmie, a Chemist. Rebecca, a Veterenary student is married to Craig, a medical student. Sara, a photographer is married to Teddy, a policeman. We have one grand daughter named Ella, 5 grand dogs, and 2 grand cats.
As a parent I have learned alot from my children. I am very proud of them for saving their money and staying out of debt. I wish I would have been the one to teach them to save their money.
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my kitchen and add on a room where I could make procelain dolls. My dream home would be in Colorado.
I am a professor of nursing now, but the two weirdest jobs I ever had was working for the FAA inspecting airports and working in the Morgue at the VA Medical Center receiving and transporting bodies and body parts.
My first job was at Senor Bob's Tacos. I made $1.53/hour to make and serve Mexican food. What I remember most about that job -the bosses son brought a gun to work and shot up the back room while I was cleaning tables. I quit the next day.
In 10 years I hope to be retired. I plan to get there by working hard and saving money. Then we will build a home on our property in Colorado where we can ski whenever we want - as long as the snow lasts.
The story wizard suggests that I get one do-over and asks what I would do. I don't do do-overs. I'm a nurse and nurses have to get it right the first time or the patient dies!!
The teacher I would love to see again would be Miss Lombardi from the 2nd grade. I would tell her how wrong she was to tell a 2nd grader she was stupid and would never amount to anything. I would suggest another line of work for her, probably one that did not give her access to impressionable little people.
The teacher from Nursing School I would love to see is Betty Ware (Bware we called her). I would tell her thank you for being so tough and making me learn how to think.
I don't have a lot of heros. My inspiration comes from my husband, my children, and my colleagues at work. I love to be around all three.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have my stethoscope, my uniform, good shoes, and my I-phone to be able to deal with the day-to-day, and anything the students might throw my way.
I have lived in California, Colorado, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. I moved often because my father was a pastor. I have not moved from Oklahoma since I have been married.
The only sports I am crazy about are figure skating, skiing, and OU football. I love to watch the Olympics because it is the best and brightest athletes. I got to go to the Olympics in Utah to see Figure skating for my birthday. We are planning to go back to the Olympics in Canada to watch figure skating and skiing.
