Donna's Story

Hiya. It's strange to write about yourself, isn't it? Let's see... My husband and I live north of Seattle on Camano Island. I was very happy in the city (Seattle) for most of my adult life, but somewhere in my 50s decided the quiet life was a better way to grow old. Now instead of enjoying downtown and all the wonderful, busy things that the city offers, I find enjoyment in my quiet community, surrounded by water, mountains and horse farms. I enjoyed a career in public relations and communications at Shoreline Community College just north of Seattle and also did a short stint teaching abroad and in California and Washington. I was ready to retire, however, which I did about two years ago. I now spend my time with my grandkids, gardening and traveling. I have two granddaughters, Maddy (11) and Isabella (6), who live about an hour's drive from us. We see them often. Unfortunately, our grandsons, Thomas (2+) and Matthew (8 mos.), live across the country. We will be going to see them next month! I have a vegetable garden that flourishes in the s...Expand for more
alt air and I greatly enjoy cooking all kinds of Italian and Mexican meals with the bounty of produce it provides. Greg and I enjoy the mountain villages of Mexico, western Europe, and thanks to our son marrying a South African (who is a U.S. citizen), South Africa. We also enjoy the east coast and Canada. My sister, Randi, lives in Woodinville, just east of Seattle, and we are blessed to still have Dad with us. He and his wife live in Seattle and we just celebrated his 88th birthday. We see each other often. Mom passed away about two years ago, just weeks after moving her up here so I could be near her and see her daily. It was devastating to lose her. I imagine many of you have experienced the loss of a parent or both of them. I'm proud of Mom. She worked at LCC for more than 30 years and included the college in her will. Today, her name graces a courtyard at the place she loved so much, and many students will be able to go to college thanks to her generosity. I hope that you and your families are happy and well. Take care of each other.

I meant to take a photo on the first day of the year, but it looked just like this. Welcome 2017. Who says we have wet, ugly winters in the northwest?
Culinary Institute, yes!
After reading weather report (75 and sunny), Donna prepared for her Napa vacation by bringing four coats....
Our little girl has to have surgery on Monday. Her second torn ACL. Please say prayers for little Cali.
The snow is beautiful on the Cascades.
Loved seeing the support of so many dads at the Bellingham march.
Michele and I were proud to march with the people in Bellingham.
Great English beer at Duffy's Irish Pub in Grays River Washington
Warner, Michele and I are enjoying beautiful scenery on our road trip to Napa.
Mumms the word.
"Jeepers! That's one BIG tree!
It's not done YET?!
Greg and I are experiencing winter on our trip to Canada.
Another wine tasting for the Myers. What a view!
After a long day of Christmas shopping, we ended up back here at our beer joint down the street. As you can see, Greg found himself the perfect solution to a cold head. Isn't he cute?
Sorry to keep posting this, but it's so funny. I just told Greg I couldn't believe he still had THE hat on and he said, with a cute smile, "Why not? Everybody's looking at it." Still makes me laugh after all these years.
East coast, West coast, we all love football.
We're holding our own in Napa.
