Donna's Story
Hiya. It's strange to write about yourself, isn't it? Let's see...
My husband and I live north of Seattle on Camano Island. I was very happy in the city (Seattle) for most of my adult life, but somewhere in my 50s decided the quiet life was a better way to grow old. Now instead of enjoying downtown and all the wonderful, busy things that the city offers, I find enjoyment in my quiet community, surrounded by water, mountains and horse farms.
I enjoyed a career in public relations and communications at Shoreline Community College just north of Seattle and also did a short stint teaching abroad and in California and Washington. I was ready to retire, however, which I did about two years ago. I now spend my time with my grandkids, gardening and traveling. alt air and I greatly enjoy cooking all kinds of Italian and Mexican meals with the bounty of produce it provides. Greg and I enjoy the mountain villages of Mexico, western Europe, and thanks to our son marrying a South African (who is a U.S. citizen), South Africa. We also enjoy the east coast and Canada.
My sister, Randi, lives in Woodinville, just east of Seattle, and we are blessed to still have Dad with us. He and his wife live in Seattle and we just celebrated his 88th birthday. We see each other often.
Mom passed away about two years ago, just weeks after moving her up here so I could be near her and see her daily. It was devastating to lose her. I imagine many of you have experienced the loss of a parent or both of them. I'm proud of Mom. She worked at LCC for more than 30 years and included the college in her will. Today, her name graces a courtyard at the place she loved so much, and many students will be able to go to college thanks to her generosity.
I hope that you and your families are happy and well. Take care of each other.
