Donna's Story
Life
I retired from the Mesquite Police Department as a Sergeant after 28 years in 1998. I became a deputy sheriff for Dallas County in felony court for two years, finishing up 30 years in law enforcement. I decided to do something dangerous, so I became a public school teacher. I taught for MISD for three years and realized that being a cop for 30 years does not prepare a person to be part of today's public education system. Now I teach Criminal Justice Courses at the Police Academy at Eastfield. I was widowed in May 2001 two months after my dad died. My mom and I built a house together in Forney, June 2005 and are very happy out here. I do art, stamping and scrapbooking classes and also teach defensive driving. to see two of my grandkids and my daughter frequently. The other two grandkids are off at college. I am beginning to understand the saying "if I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!" I travel when I can afford it. I took my oldest grand daughter to Paris and London last summer for 15 days as a graduation present. We had a blast. Now, I have to save up for the other three. My oldest grandson and I are going to Hawaii next summer. Italy in two more years and then the twelve year old is talking about the moon. Oh well. I will finish my fourth master's degree this fall. I may be starting a new career as a school counselor. We will see. For now, life is good and I am enjoying every minute of it. God bless, Donna Seyster
