Joyce's Story

Life I have relocated to Redding, California after Hurricane Katrina. Now, I enjoy smiling and greeting people as a public agency employee. I work for Shasta Community Services District. It is a water utility company in the old stage coach and mining town of Shasta. My office is a one room school house that was built in 1928. I am the office manager and I manage the customer service and billing as well as communications with the public. I am also the secretary to the Board of Directors. I am married to Carmen Cicala. We worked together at Avondale Shipyard. Our son, Joseph is 15 years old this year (2007). We lived in Waggaman, LA until Hurricane Katrina. School Graduating from Metairie Jr. High, I was a member of the French Club, the Chorus, the Drill Team and the FBLA. I dated Richard Flick all through high school. Richard and I were married February 15, 1969. Richard and I had twin daughters in December of 1970. We lived on the corner of Roman St. and N. Hullen St. and moved into an older home on the corner of Severn and Roman Sts. Our best times were parking the Flick Supply Co. truck on our front lawn to watch the Mardi Gras and St. Patrick's Day parades when they use to roll down Severn Avenue to Metairie Rd. Our best dates were when we doubled and tripled dated with Mike Dugas and Charlotte Wood, Bucky Savarese and Barbara Pennington, or Phil ...Expand for more
Hicks and Phyllis Collier. We usually went to the Hong Kong restaurant, Rockery's, or Lenfant's. The drags out in LaPlace were a great time also. Never failed to come home without a vicious sunburn! Richard and I divorced in September of 1977. Richard passed away in May of 1989. I spent time at different careers and wound up as a security investigator for the Hyatt, the Le Meridien and the Windsor Court Hotels. When my son was born, I went to work in the construction industry as a receptionist, then assistant project manager and a construction management representative. I also worked in two different architectural offices. Then I went to work at Avondale Shipyards in the Material Requisitioning depart for four year and then to the Configuration Management Dept for another two years. Workplace From 1984 to 1992, I worked in the hotel industry as an investigator. I worked at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, the LeMeridien, and the Windsor Court Hotel. I have seen many things that most people never see. I have attended sick people, fighting bosses and secretaries on love trips, Tulane and LSU students doing "it" in stairwells. You name it. After my son, Joseph was born in 1992, I went back to secretarial duties. That's when I went to work for ConstructionSouth, Inc. as a receptionist then worked my way to assistant project manager, and then to construction manager.
