Donnie's Story
Life
How do you sum up 57 years in 4000 characters? I can't so I'm not going to try. Life has been an interesting ride. Remember how we thought we would never get out of high school? Wow, it came and went in a heartbeat. The last 40 years have been a blur. Okay, so some of that time was spent with a slightly adjusted view of reality, but a blur just the same. The best thing to happen to me (apart from the birth of my beautiful children) was leaving Memphis. So far I've lived in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and getting ready to move to Beloit, Wisconsin. What in the hell is in Beloit you ask? The world's largest can of chili that's what. I tell you it doesn't get any better than that. In my quest to mark off items from my life's top ten list...there goes number 8. I can't remember 1 - 7, but I'm sure I did most of them. I'm one of those guys that no one really remembers. Didn't play sports, NEVER made the honor roll but I never failed a class either. I was so afraid of having to go to summer school that the idea of it was the impetuous behind not failing. I could go on and on, but no one will ever read this. Who would I like to hear from? There are many of you actually. IÂve been a pretty easy fellow to find until a few years ago and no one ever tried. But back to the questionÂ
whom would I like to hear from? These are the lost souls, not necessarily from Central High.
1) Ewing ÂBuzz Johnson  went through junior and high school with Buzz. We were even roommates at UT. Buzz, you were a neat guy.
2) Dana Herring  actually I went to Vollentine elementary and some of Snowden Jr High. She used to live on Alameda. She broke my heart in the 2nd grade when she wore an Elvis Presley Âpoodle skirt to school. I was devastated. I'd love to hear how she is doing.
3) Bonnie Blanton  I remember a warm, great smile. She lived across the street from Snowden. I remember some very pleasant parties at her house. Thank you Bonnie, they wer...Expand for more
e fun.
4) Ronnie Sheffield  Ronnie had this way of starting to laugh that was so infectious that after a while IÂd be rolling on the floor laughing too. Thanks Ronnie
5) Susan Gurley  She was Hoffman Gurley's little sister and the first girl I ever kissed. She was a younger woman. I think she was 7 and I was 8.
6) Rita Harris  met her at Snowden. I just remember she was nice to be around. Always very kind.
7) Becky (Rebecca) Hammer  Always wondered what happened to her. She graduated from Messick.
8) Anne Johnstone  donÂt really remember where I met her. She lived on Mclean close to Vinton. Beautiful girl. I hope sheÂs doing well.
9) Judy Beck  Great girl...one of those bad timing for life stories.
10) Marcia Caller  she was from Atlanta. She never saw me sober. I think we had a good time.
11) Rita Jaffe  East High. Played me like a violin.
12) Richard Morris  goofy guy, fun to be around. He taught me this poem: Âthe stars are out, and so am I, the moon is high, and so will I be soonÂ.
13) Jerry Keslinsky - enjoyed our friendship. Hope life has been good to you.
14) Sandy Novick  Sandy played bass guitar in our band Âthe MajesticsÂ. When we were little boys, weÂd run down the street pretending we were gazelles. Why the hell we did that IÂll never know.
15) Larry Friedman  we were friends
16) Mike Friedman (no relation) Â I thought you were cool.
17) David Bussel  tall goofy guy, always smiling. Moved away and never heard from him again.
18) Charlie Franklin  great trumpet player
19) Abby Byall  my first real crush. I hope life has been good to you.
20) Carl Gustafson  we were at Snowden. I picked on you too much and one day you gave me punch in the arm. With that one act of defiance, you taught me a lesson in respect that I have never forgotten. Thanks, Carl.
21) Someone said "you can't go home again"...how true, how true.
See ya...If you're ever in Beloit, WI, look me up. Donnie
