We always had some type of music going, but mostly a combination of country and gospel. Relatives would visit and sometimes a music session would just happen. We always had some type of music playing while farming. My granddad taught me some old country banjo picking and my grandmother had me in the local church choir at an early age. She taught me all the different vocal levels, singing soprano, alto, tenor and bass. As I grew, my vocals blossomed the best in the alto/tenor levels. I took piano lessons for 9 years, playing more classical songs than pop. I also took a year of guitar lessons. As I went through school, I continued singing in school chorus, including solos during concerts. I was selected several times to the All County Chorus, a collection of the best vocalists in the county. I performed in school plays singing lead roles.
