Dori's Story
After graduating from North in 1963, I attended Nebr. Wesleyan for one year and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1969 with a B.A. in psychology, minors in English, music, and philosophy. I was a Residence Director in UNL residence halls for five years, three of which were after my marriage to David A. Bush. Dave received his Juris Doctor degree in 1974. I worked in the UNL Housing Office until the birth of our first son, Matthew in 1976. We lived in North Platte for almost three years before moving to Grand Island in 1980 where our second son, Tyler, was born in 1981.
While living in Grand Island, I returned to employment in 1985 as a Community Development Specialist with the Nebraska Department of Social Services. After leaving that position in 1989, I was fortunate to have had several "careers," working...Expand for more
for various non-profit organizations along with a three-year stint as an Administrative Assistant with State Farm Insurance. Before retiring, I worked for Boys Town in Grand Island for a total of 7 1/2 years.
My husband Dave was a County Judge in Grand Island for almost 24 years before retiring due to ill health. Dave passed away in February, 2014 after a 3 1/2 year battle with kidney cancer.
I continue to be involved as a volunteer with many community non-profit organizations, my sons' high school alma mater, and my church. I have been humbly recognized in my community with several awards due to my leadership roles in various efforts. It has been my good fortune to have had the pleasure of working with many individuals committed to bettering society. I have been richly blessed with an amazing family and delightful friends.
