Dori's Story
Life
After a childhood of a lot of moving around and changing schools every few years, I decided that for my kids we're staying put. Long Beach is home for my family of 4, and we live right across the street from a K-8. I married my high school sweetheart, Mark, after 7 years of dating (sheesh) in 1995. We have two daughters six and ten years old that are pretty bratty, with emphasis on pretty :) We have a pug "Otis" and a rabbit "Elyon" (i think, my daughter named it something weird). We bought this latest house in early 2005 and it was a mess. It looks so much better now, but it's a work in progress. I finally got my dreamcar, we had to sell Marks dreamcar (big exhausty Tahoe) to get it. It's a little red stick shift mini-cooper convertible. I've had it two months now and will make any excuse to drive :)
School
eh, I don't feel like digging that far back right now haha
College
college? yes I went to college...and those were the craziest years. I don't mean that I was wild and did a bunch of things I half-remember due to intoxication...what I mean is that so much happens, and there's so much indecision and confusion about what to do with your life. I honestly dont think your early 20's is the right time for college...like right about now I could go back and be totally dedicated and serious about what I want to study. I'm suggesting to my kids that they travel and make money for a while...Expand for more
...unless of course they score scholarships!
Workplace
Gawd I have been working a long time! 21 years to be exact. At 14 I worked for my mom's production company selling tickets and helping her edit copy for programs and brochures. Next I worked at the Rose Bowl on event weekends selling pretzels. I would make over a hundred bucks for an event, not bad for a teenager. At 17 I worked in a sports medicine clinic, and enjoyed it so much stayed for 7 years. What kind of job can you squirt water at your coworkers, work out at lunch, help people, and go surfing after work with half the office? That's the kind of job it was. Next I ran an office- a satellite office- for a big company. Then I became executive secretary for a jet builder. My boss was a Phd, and the nicest boss in history. Highlights from that company would be tearing up the hangar on a golf cart, showing people around! Presently my surroundings are more sedate, I work in a high rise off Pine & Ocean in downtown Long Beach for an architect firm. It's truly the corporate life, the upside is its with a bunch of creative people, around my age and younger, and right downstairs is our bar...feels kind of like cheers. However, I'm not a settle in one place type of person, so I'm sure I'll be on to the next place soon as it's already been 3 years here!
Military
Not even close. Sometimes in my kickboxing class I feel like a badass soldier.
