Doris's Story
Life
I AM ALIVE AND WELL IN ST. MARY'S CO. MD., I AM WIDOWED AND LIVE ALONE, I STILL WORK FULL TIME IN THE HEALTH CARE FIELD AND AM LOVING MY JOB. I HAVE ONE SON AND 2 BEAUTIFUL GRANDDAUGHTERS AND A WONDERFUL DAUGHTER-IN-LAW WHOM I LOVE VERY MUCH.ALL THINGS CONSIDERED I HAVE A VERY GOOD LIFE, AND NO COMPLAINTS. I WOULD LOVE TO DO SOME TRAVELLING, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO GO TO IRELAND, AND MAY DO THAT THIS YEAR. I LOVE THE BEACH, I EXERCISE EVERY DAY AND WALK ABOUT 15 MILES A WEEK WHEN THE WEATHER PERMITS. I TRY TO STAY AS HEALTHY AS I CAN, SO FAR I'VE HAD GREAT LUCK IN DOING THAT. I THANK GOD FOR MY FAMILY, FRIENDS,AND GOOD HEALTH EACH DAY.
School
My earliest recollection of school was that in the kindergarten, I was very shy and did'nt want to stay in the classroom, so i would leave and go to the playground. I remember when I made my First Communion,we were kneeling at the Altar, and we were told, as soon as you receive Communion, leave the Altar and return to your seat. Well, I was so excited, I just remained kneeling, with my head bowed low and my hands folded in prayer and the Nun had to come tap me on the shoulder to remind me I was supposed to be seated......That happened at St. Mary's Church in Washington, D.C. I then attended St. Peters School on Capitol Hill, from there to St. Francis Xavier at 25th. & pa. Ave, S.E., and then onto St. Cecilia's Academy on East...Expand for more
Capitol St. S.E. I was taught by a Nun at St. Francis Xavier, her name was Sr. Francis Therese, and she was beautiful and so kind to everyone. then , there was Sr. Mary Ruth, whom we called Sr. Mary Yardstick.........she loved to hit everyone with that thing, and ruled with an iron fist! I truly learned from her, she would not allow you to forget anything. She hurt my feelings a lot and made me cry several times, but I thank her now, and I learned more from her than any other teachers. I had a really big crush on Hilary Arnold, and a boy Named Steven Lynn in my class at St. Francis Xavier. I would love to attend school again, and this time I would really pay attention, and try to enjoy all the opportunities that high school offers.
Workplace
I CONSIDER BEING A GOOD MOM THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB/PROFESSION I'VE EVER HAD. I WAS SO BLESSED TO BE ABLE TO STAY AT HOME AND RAISE MY SON, I LOVED EVERY MOMENT WITH HIM AND CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT,THAT WAS THE MOST ENJOYABLE TIME OF MY LIFE. I'VE WORKED AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT JOBS THROUGHT MY LIFE, BUT THE ONE I HAVE NOW IS THE MOST FULFILLING. I WORK IN THE MEDICAL FIELD AND HAVE BEEN AT THE SAME LOCATION FOR THE PAST 18 YEARS, I DO PHYSICAL/PHYSIOTHERAPY FOR A GROUP OF CHIROPRACTIC/PHYSICAL THERAPIST'S. IT'S TRULY A GREAT FEELING TO KNOW THAT MY EFFORTS HAVE HELPED PEOPLE TO FEEL BETTER AND TO LIVE PAIN FREE AND PRODUCTIVE LIVES.
