Dorothy's Story

Life I worked for the State of California for 35.5 years before I retired in January of 2000. Since then my husband and I have been full time RVer's. We do own 5.5 acres of vacant land in Grants Pass, Oregon and we will build a house there one day. Right now we are enjoying the RV lifestyle. My husband is younger and has not yet fully retired. So we typically travel in the late spring through late autumn, and then we spend our winters in Arizona where he sells Rv's. We have just started our 7th year and still enjoy it. We have traveled across the USA twice, the first time in 2002 and we took our 16 year old niece with us for two months, then she had to return home for school. We did it again in 2005. It is really difficult to pick a favorite place (we are often asked that question) as there are many. Among them are Savannah, GA, Maine, and Pennsylvannia; but there are many places. different things to see and do and so much diversity. We are currently planning on another cross country trip this next summer. One of the things about this lifestyle is the flexibility. We can go where we want, when we want. We can change plans and stay longer or leave earlier than we thought. Update: 6/2011: After 11 years of fulltiming in an RV we decided to put down roots; however those roots aren't in Oregon. In September of last year we bought a house in Dresden, TN -- who would have thought!!! We absolutely love it here. We've kept the motorhome and will continue to do some travel. Right now we are enjoying our new home. We arrived here with nothing for a house. So we spent an additional 2 weeks in the motorhome on the driveway, while we purchased the essentials: refrigerator, bed, something to sit on. We have gradually furnished the house. Currently we are enlarging the deck to a more useable size. Life is great!!
