Dorothy's Story

Here's my story in a nutshell. After SIS I went to school at IAIA very briefly, then Haskell from 70 -73. Learned art skills from Dr. Dick West (Cheyenne). 74-76 worked with ITC's Nevada History Project as a Reseacher-Writer. Lived in Owyhee on the Duck Valley Rez for a couple of years and worked at the 'Rec Hall', which was a blast. Oh, yeah met my son's dad, JC Eaglesmith who was a high school teacher (Indian History, and PE)at Wooster and several other local High Schools. After leaving Owyhee, I moved to Lawrence, Kansas for a year - going back to school at Haskell and working part time. In 1979, landed a job with Hallmark Cards Inc. as a artist. It was the best job ever. Worked for Hallmark, using the old paintbrushes and light table, then ten years later, Hallmark went Digital (MAC Computers) so all of us switched over and hardly ever picked up a paint brush again. Worked there for 28 years before retiring and moving to the Reno-Sparks Colony in Nevada. Since retirement I do alot of yardwork at the Senior Center, plue maintaining three yards, keep up with my Digital Art Work for future art showings, beadwork, and now the local Seniors want to learn Silks...Expand for more
creen, so I'll be teaching a class in that. Enjoy going to the local PowWows, taking care of my dog, Kubrick. Last year I lost my beloved dog, Kota. She was nine years old. I still miss her and think of her daily. Really like shopping at our local SAVERS and getting great bargains. I have a son, Jason who graduated from Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri with a BA in Media Communications. He's an Editor at Channel 2 in Reno. He'd like to eventually work in California. He enjoys working in alot of different computer programs like Maya, Photoshop, Silver Bullet..alot of animation and special effects stuff. I have a brother, Burton and a sister, Ruth who live on the Colony with me. A brother, Tom who lives in Elko, Nevada. My brother, 'Chip' passed away several years ago, he was in his late fifties when he died, also my brother Claude passed away years ago. My mom passed away in 2003 at the age of 94 years. She lived all her life in Nevada. My dad, passed away when I was 10 years old. He was Navajo, from New Mexico, and a Navajo Code Talker. SOME STEWART TRIVIA: ¿ Mr. Cowan's wife eats at our Senior Citizen Center sometimes. There it is in a nutshell.
