Dorothy's Story
Life
Shortly after graduating from BCMHS, I got married and had two children, Louis & Monica. I am still married and both children are married. Louis has been married for six years. My first grandchild was born, appropriately, on Labor Day 2007. Monica got married two years ago.
Workplace
Right after HS, I began working for the Franchise Tax Board. That lasted three months....low pay and VERY boring. I started as a Clerk Typist with the City of Los Angeles in the Bureau of Engineering. It was fun working with a lot of men but still very slow and boring. During break time, a lot of City employees would meet in the cafeteria at City Hall where I met a lot of people. d for 29 years until his death in 2001. While working for John Ferraro one of my co-workers was Tom LaBonge, who upon Councilman Ferraro's death ran for his office and won. So 35 years later I remain in Council District 4 in the City of Los Angeles. I work as Councilman LaBonge's Executive Assistant. It is one of the best jobs to have. Nothing is ever the same and Tom is a great boss to have although very active. In about two years, I am planning to retire and travel more.
I have been retired for two years now & ABSOLUTELY love it. I, now, have three grandchildren & enjoy taking care of them on occasion. I bowl five days a week & have met some really nice people. Also enjoy gambling every once in a while. Still enjoy traveling with my husband as well as with my friends.
