Dorothy's Story

Life Right now I'm deep into trying to create a new life for myself after having lost my husband of 41 years to cancer in December, 2003. I have 3 grown and married daughters, a son in Denver, 7 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. I taught English, Russian and computer science for 22 years, mostly in Catholic schools, the longest at Marquette Catholic High School in Alton. I've lived in Granite City, Illinois for 42 years now, 15 minutes from St. Louis. My girls all live in the same subdivision in Edwardsville (near SIU-E) about 15 minutes down Highway 270, so I see them and their families quite a bit. This summer (after being down for 6 months with shoulder surgery) I went on a travel splurge: Spain for 12 days, Harry Potter tour of London and Oxford with my 16 year old grand-daughter, then Wales and Ireland with her for 15 days, then finally just came back from a 4 day Red Hatters convention in Boston. Had a great time with 3 Red Hatters friends in my group. I'm ready to stay home for a while now. We'll see what adventures life has in store for me. ul guy whose wife died a bit before my husband did. We are planning marriage in April 2006. He has 4 grown sons and a grown daughter with 4 grandchildren. I'm smiling again. Update: we married April 22, 06. He is still wonderful. We traveled all last year: Pennsylvania to see his sisters several times, Colorado to see my friends and my son, Iowa to see his sons, and multiple times to Chicago to visit my mom and rest of family. Big trip to Eastern Europe including Russia, Baltic states, Czech Republic and Poland. It was hectic, exhausting, and FUN. Lee likes to travel as much as I do. We have spent the winter in Orlando. Back soon to Granite City where we are living still. Update: Went to Ireland in Oct 07...I drove and Lee was my "back seat driver" in the front seat. Driving on the left was harrowing. Neither of us liked it at all. All we saw was the road because by the time we got to the hotel, our nerves were shot and we stayed there. Nevertheless, we met LOTS of wonderful Irish people (they love to give directions) and the food in Irish pubs is great! as is the ale!
