Dorrie's Story
After High School I worked for Fotomat for a few years. I was then fortunate enough to get a job at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. I started as an office assistant in Supply and Distribution. They had a storeroom back then with 10 million dollars worth of stock. After awhile I became a Stock Analyst which means I inventoried and reordered stock for the storeroom. I later became a Technical Release Representative. This job gave me a credit card for the lab which I used to buy items for the storeroom. The Lab downsized the storeroom so I moved on to work in Procurement Customer Support at the lab. for LLNL for 40 years and retired March 30, 2019.
During this time I met and married a wonderful man named Tom Mathews. We lived in Oakley for 7 years and had two daughters. Tasha was born first followed by Marley. I love my girls so much I couldn't stand to spend so much time commuting from/to Oakley. Tom, the girls and I moved back to Livermore in 2002. We live 5 minutes from the Lab and Tom works from home for Aetna. The girls are growing up, Tasha graduated from UC Davis and has a degree in Genetics and Genomics. She recently got a job at Color in Burlingame. Marley is at Las Positas College working on a certificate in Theater Technology. She hopes to go to University of Oregon in 2020/2021 year to study Urban Planning.
