Dotti's Story
Life
After spending 35 years with Pac Bell, AT&T, and Lucent, I finally retired 11/30/01. My husband Dick and I have just celebrated 25 years of marriage. It is the second marriage for both of us and between us, we have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. We met while both working at Mountain Bell and living in Tucson, Arizona where I had moved in 1974. In 1997, we moved back to California and settled in beautiful San Diego.
In October 2002, we left San Diego for a round the world cruise on our 40 foot sailboat. We'll be coming home from time to time and also joined by friends and family in exotic ports too. WE left with a large flotilla of boats that all headed south to Cabo San Lucas together. Each year, approximately 100 boats participate in this rally. Once everyone reaches Cabo, they go their separate ways. We spent the next 7 months in Baja, mainly in La Paz before heading north to San Carlos on the mainland where we have left our boat for the summer. We're currently spending the summer in Tucson and will also be traveling to California and Idaho to visit family and friends. We will return to our boat in October to continue our cruising lifestyle. We hope to visit Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo and perhaps Alcapulco. Then we need to make a decision whether to stay in Mexico another year or continue on to either the Caribbean or to the South Pacific. No matter what the decision, I'm sure we will...Expand for more
have a great adventure that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. We don't yet know where we will finally settle once we return to land but I'm sure it will be influenced by where the majority of our grandchildren are located.
Well, it's several years later and we did return to our boat in Mexico where we continued cruising for the remainder of the year. We spent most of our time on the Mexican Riviera and had a wonderful time until I fell on a friend's boat while negotiating a narrow passage and got tossed around and fell and broke my wrist. That pretty much put an end to our cruising as my husband became overly protective of me and worried that something like that could happen again in the middle of the ocean. I'm not a klutz or anything and the friend's boat had nothing to hold on to. I was down below trying to close hatches when it happened. Oh well, it was a wonderful adventure and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
We returned to San Diego and for the next several years lived on our boat while I worked at Home Depot and my husband worked at West Marine. We recently moved back to Tucson to take care of my mother in law and have a beautiful new home. We're also close to our boys and 4 of our 7 grandchildren. My husband is now fully retired and I plan to join him later this year as we've all reached that age where we can finally "collect".
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming reunions.
