Dottie's Story
After graduation, I went to work at Pontiac General Hospital, married Joel Smith (class of 63) and in 1966 our daughter, Joi, was born. Joel was killed in March of 1969 and I married my present husband, Neil, in 1973 - he was my next door neighbor!!!! In March of 1974, our daughter, Megan, was born and in August of 1974, we left Pontiac and moved to Annapolis, Maryland where Neil became a police officer. I worked as a secretary in a real estate office during the day and went to school three nights a week for medical assisting - it was a long 10 months!! After graduating, I worked in the lab at the local hospital then was asked to join a private lab run by the pathologists from the hospital - I loved learning how to run all the chemistry blood tests - since I had to work weekends, I decided to switch to a pediatrician's office and I worked there until July of 1987 - I then went to work as an office administrator for a dental practice and I was there until April of 2006 when I officially retired!!! unteer several days a week at the local hospital in the emergency room - they keep trying to talk me into hiring on as an employee but I love the fact that I can go in when I want to and leave when I want to - that way whenever we want to go visit our grandchildren, we can - Joi and Scott have 3 daughters - Ruby is 18, Lilah-Rose is 116 and Isabella is 13 - they live in Sandy, Utah - Joi started dating Scott in her sophomore year of high school (Scott was a senior) and they just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this September. Megan and Michael have been married for 16 years and have 2 sons - Jack (named after my late father) is 13 and Aidan is 9 - they live in Maryland so at least we get to see them quite often - we are only 65 miles from Annapolis. Neil retired from the Annapolis Police Dept. in 1990 after undergoing triple by-pass at the age of 45 - he was a private investigator for 6 years then was head of security at a local training facility for race horses. We are going to celebrate our 43rd wedding anniversary in February - we have been blessed with such a good life and now that we are enjoying retirement, we are looking forward to many more adventures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
