Doug's Story

Okay, time for me to quit being lazy and finally put something in here. God-willing I wont leave too many typos. :>P Now, 20-some-odd years in a cpl paragraphs.... After high school, I spent a year at Fla St Univ. I refuse to claim I "went to school" there, since I hardly ever saw the inside of a class room. LOL But, by only showing up for tests, I did manage to bag 2 A's, a B and 3 C's the 1st semester. The following semester, however, was "perfect"...all F's. But I had a ball and a time I will never forget! I returned home and several months later, decided the military would do me some good and HOPEFULLY, provide some good direction for this wayward youth. The Marines did provide the direction I desparately needed as well as a wealth of memories and adventures throughout the US and about 20 or so countries. Providence led me to a special ops unit that afforded many opportunities to do things I never would have attempted otherwise. After serving eight years, I felt it was time to quit taking the easy road and return to what I loved best, math and science. I returned home to Louisville and shacked up with my best friend Richard Hyde, yeah, I am sure some of you may recall that fellow classmate. I too...Expand for more
k up the books again, briefly at JCC, then tranferred to UofL Speed School. All the while I was hacking out a living fixing 2-way radios and pagers for the local Motorola shop. Along the way I met, fell in love and married a wonderful young gal and commenced to raising 3 wonderful kids. Unfortunately, we were unable to make marriage work for us and subsequently divorced. We do, however, remain very good friends and share custody of the not so little (anymore) ones. In 2003 I completed my BSEE and graduated from Speed. In 2000, I had started working as an electrical designer for a commercial consulting firm part-time while in school. Upon graduating they hired me on full-time as an engineer and quickly became lead engineer for my design team. But after seven years working in the insane world of commercial design/construction, I decided that was not quite the engineering I wanted to continue to do. Late in 2007, I moved to an industrial design firm specializing in oil refinery work. This brings things up to the present. I am thoroughly enjoying the new work. The kids, 14, 13 and 11...g,g,b, are doing well. The girls are about to enter the exciting world of high school this year. GOD HELP ME !!! LOL
