Doug's Story
Life
After graduating in 1963 I joined the Navy. I was stationed at a California Naval Air Base in a Navy Jet Squadron. I served aboard 3 Aircraft Carriers,all going to the Gulf of Tonkin Viet Nam. One being the USS Enterprise, bringing it around the horn (the first US nuclear task force) to go to the Gulf for Viet Nam. I got to see the Far East up close. I am a Proud Viet Nam Vet!
After leaving the service I remained in California. I have been living in the central Valley since 1963. We live about a 4-hour drive from San Francisco or Los Angeles. We can be at the beach in only a few hours or snow-covered mountains.
I owned a automotive accessory business for over 35 years. My company did Kustom work and installed: Factory Electric Sunroofs, leather interiors, stereos, and other add/bolt on auto accessories for cars, trucks, vans or SUV. We did auto accessorory installations for New Car dealers throughout the state of California. We also did alot of Kustom car work, classics-streetrods etc. My company, D & D Kustom Vans, Cars and Trucks, is still located in Fresno, California with new owners, I sold out and retired in June 2007.

o over the last 35 plus years have kept me in line. I have one son. My son and I are both car/bike/boat nuts. Have gone through every type of Motorcycle or Quad they have built. Done the speedboats & ski boats (when much younger). I have built or purchased and redone several hot rods/street rods over the years, have won major awards with them throughout the west coast.
For fun, my wife and I like to travel. We attend alot of out of town/state custom car shows,(as long as there is a casino close by for her-ha) We travel to Nevada, Arizona, Oregon and Washington for car shows. We usually show up at the car shows and the guys swap stories, check out the Rods while the gals sneak off to the casinos.
We either drive or tow our streetrod, depending on distance to show. We attend as many street rod shows and Goodguys car events on the West Coast during the year as possible. We also have a place on the coast which is in Pismo Beach Ca., and we try to go there at least once a month. .
