Doug's Story
Updated 2/2/2025:
I retired from teaching in June of 2019. Dianne and I recently celebrated our 42nd anniversary. We have four beautiful grandchildren. Motorcycling is still important to me, but no long trips anymore. Our family includes four beautiful Golden Retrievers, though three have left for the rainbow bridge. Luke is still with us, and hopefully we have many more years ahead. I have no complaints about my health, though time has brought with it some new issues. Nothing serious however and we are both very fortunate in that regard. That’s my update! Loving retirement and happy to be alive and well. I recall my life in Coventry often, and hope my classmates and friends from good old CHS are well, happy, and enjoying life!!
After high school, I went into the Marine Corps, then computer school, and a career in data processing which I abandoned in 1995 to go to college and become a history teacher. I earned my BA in history from Bridgewater State, and my M.Phil from Trinity College, Dublin,...Expand for more
Ireland. I still miss Dublin. I returned home in July of 2001, and began teaching high school about a mile from my house at King Philip Regional High School. Just a few days later, 9/11 happened. It was an interesting way to begin my new career.
I am in my 14th year of teaching now. I teach modern world history, and Advanced Placement world history to 11th graders. They are terrific people and I look forward to spending time with them each day. I hope to continue until my 70th, and then who knows..... I have three children, and Dianne and I celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary last month (10/14). We are empty nesters.
I still enjoy traveling to Great Britain, listening to Bach, and enjoying a good merlot or Pinot next to a crackling fire. I also enjoy riding my Harley Davidson motorcycle around the country. I dabble in genealogy, and write poetry. My health is good, and I am happy with the way things have turned out with my life. I would enjoy hearing from anyone, and I wish you all the very best!!
