Doug's Story
Life is complete-- my wife bought me an iPod this Christmas so I can now be in my own world of Bruce, Van Morrison, Jackson Browne, and other similar rock icons. Not that I haven't been accused of being in my own world before. Still catch as many concerts as I can and, fortunately, seem to be living in the center of the live music universe here in Charlottesville, VA.
Have traveled around a bit since high school. After college, moved out to Colorado and skied for 5 years. Found myself in the restaurant business, and moved to Salt Lake City, Atlanta, and then ended up as a F & B director at Snowshoe Mtn. Resort in W. V. Got married in '91-- never too late or some sort of comment on my life philosophy--and moved to Crozet, VA, just outside of C'ville. Not one to do it the easy way, we had twins, a boy and girl, who are now ten. Talk about a wakeup call! I think I'm still sleep deprived from the first three years of their lives. Did we have this much energy? Can't say I can hang with them all the time, but have been my son's soccer coach for the past 5 years, so I still run a good bit, and my daughter and I love to dance. Not surprisingly, we seem to have different opinions on what is "good music."
The twins initiated another career change, so I ended up where I probably should have been all along. I teach 6th Grade English at He...Expand for more
nley Middle school in Crozet and love it.
Drop me a note if you want and hope to see some old friends at the Reunion.
Update December 2017:
So my twins are now in their 2nd year of college. Blessed— financially and family-wise— that they are both in good Virginia state schools am doing well. Good to have them close by and see them often. I retired from teaching 3 years ago due to health issues (resolved) and it was just time to go. Like many professions, the reasons why you loved your work— which I did— changes over time so that the passion just faded. Loved the kids and colleagues and the impact you can make on a person’s life, but the expectations and intrusions on teaching became too much. The job I loved doing sadly no longer existed. Oh well...
Still live in a great area. Spectacular views of the Blue Ridge off my deck. Closest I’ve found to the Rockies— and yes, I still ski. Also great living so close to a thriving college town with super restaurants, music, and theater— as well as golf. Still beating around that little white ball with a good group of seniors.
So life is good— family and friends are all happy and healthy. Hopeful that many old friends—OLD— are able to get together for 50th reunion. Being a late comer to Facebook, I’ve been in touch with a few fellow classmates, so if interested feel free to contact me. Best to all.
