Doug's Story
After Willow Glen, I went to SJSU, graduated in Industrial Administration (engineering + business), then spent about 7 years in manufacturing. Got married in 1979, followed the dream and left manufacturing for aviation in 1981. Since then I have been a flight instructor, charter and corporate pilot, FAA inspector, chief pilot/director of operations and VP/General Manager of a small (really small) airline, and picked up a master's degree in aeronautical science. I guess I'm hooked on flying. My last gig was as chief of instruction for a small jet manufacturer before it filed Chapter 7 last February. Since then I have been unemployed thanks to this wonderful economy, but I am getting caught up on some reading, maintaining my caffeine intake at an acceptable level, and learning Mafia Wars on Facebook! occasional instructing in a small jet, waiting to see if the Chapter 7 company will rise from the ashes.
My son Stephen (age 23) graduated from Pitt in Political Science and History and is working for a non-profit in Houston. My daughter Sarah (age 21) is a senior at USC majoring in Archaeology and spending lots of time in Turkey these days. My wife Linda used to be a high school English teacher but now works part-time at our church, where we are both very active in mission/outreach and I am active in adult education.
I still play the clarinet and am always working on the perfect pun. I have had a lot of time to work out at a fitness center recently. I have been doing a lot of sit-ups and crunches, working to develop a "six-pack", and I am happy to announce that I already have a "one-pack." Only five more to go!
