Doug's Story

Life BTW, don't leave me a note, look for me on FaceBook, LinkedIn, etc. I don't use classmates. Growing up really, really sucked, but you probably figured that out because you knew me then. I'm sad thinking about so many people I wasn't able to connect with, but life is a balance and so I keep looking forward. ispinn AATT gmail DDOOTT ccoomm In '92 I moved from the NW 'burbs of Detroit to Orlando, Florida to pursue a pipe dream of working as an animator with Walt Disney World. Disney offered me a job—piloting their monorail. :-Z Looking back, Disney's offer was one of many tiny yet significant stamps of approval and confirmation that my heart was truly in the right place. When I left from Detroit I broke off communication with my family. It took me that long to get the nerve to step up, get some cojones, and move away. That was one of the best things I ever did for myself. Call it tough love. Call it the beginning of courage. I worked computer support for Lockheed Martin for six years from 1993 until 1999. I also tried starting my own web company at ispinn ddoott ccoomm. I even went seriously into debt opening a sign shop in Winter Garden in 2001. That's another interesting story. I've been singing baritone and bass in the Barbershop Harmony Society since 1992. I've sung in the a-cappella quartet called Ad Lib in the Sunshine District for the Barbershop Harmony Society. I directed two choruses, one women's chorus for three years, and one men's chorus for two years. Both choruses were in Brooksville, Florida. Since Orlando, I've moved to Redondo Beach, CA, then Las Vegas, NV, and I'm currently hanging in Henderson, NV, doing dog training, patent submissions, and some web programming for a friend in California. I'm self-employed, so I get to work out of my home in my jeans and a T-shirt. <3 Love and regards, (/|\) Peace, Doug School Big, big, unending thanks to Psychology professor Andy Barclay at Michigan State University, for helping me learn and grow. I'm still confirming things you taught me in your PSY485 Psychology of Love and Maturity course, and hearing your voice and your messages in my daily life. Life is my school. Learning is a healthy addiction. Doug College It took me a long time to *get it*. In 1981, after two and a half years at U of M, Ann Arbor, m...Expand for more
y world came crashing down on me. I couldn't pretend anymore, I couldn't stay in denial, and I had to start asking the hard questions. I dropped out of school, and started looking at what was wrong—what was really going on. By the end of that same summer—before I was really ready to go back to college—I went back to college, but this time back to MSU, East Lansing, Michigan. One of the best, most rewarding things I ever did was to take training for telephone crisis counseling in 1983 from Listening Ear Crisis Center in East Lansing, MI. I volunteered there for about three years from '83 to '85. I'm still using the skills today that I learned over 40 years ago. I was a bouncer at B'Zar and at America's Cup for two years. I was one of the two thinnest bouncers on staff, but was it fun! While waiting lunch tables at the downtown Radisson Hotel one afternoon, I had the pleasure of waiting on the governor of Michigan, Governor James Blanchard. Nice guy. So was his bodyguard. Workplace First official job out of college? Hustling pizzas in Lansing, MI! LOL General Dymamics — 3 years Lockheed Martin — 6 years ispinn pictures 1999, and still going. Just do the browser thingy on ispinn, (ispinn ddoott com since URLs aren't allowed in the bio) and you'll get there. Sign Route — 2001 to...uh...2001 :-D Consultant for Siemens Westinghouse 2001 — installing Outlook and Outlook Express on corporate laptop systems, and doing custom training on the applications. Fiserv 2001 to 2005 — Graphical User Interface training. Great opportunity. 2005-2006 Nothing...well not really nothing, but caught odd jobs and such, some computer work here, some voice teaching there. 2003 - 2007 Barbershop Chorus Director, Hernando Hills Hi-Lites, Hernando Harmonizers, Hernando county, FL Magical Arts & Design 2006 to present I'm quite the inventor—I've got tons of ideas. tiny.cc/CuttingEyeNeedle tiny.cc/DPDisplaySystem DOuGTrainer - Dog Training I do live video dog training across the globe. I currently have clients in the UK, Los Angeles, California, Orlando, Florida, Chicago, Illinois, and the Canary Islands, Spain. Military I wonder if things had been different and I had had my act together as a kid, what I might have done had I had time to spend in the military—but that's another long story. I got my private pilot's license in '92, but at my age, the military doesn't want me.
