Doug's Story
After HS, went to college in the Twin Cities, MN area and graduated in 1978 with a BA in Business/Economics. Married in June 1978 and started working full time in July 1978 for Means Services, a uniform rental company. First child was born in 1980 and soon after found out she had monocytic leukemia. Tracy passed away in 1982. Subsequently, Dean, Scott and Amy were born in 1985, 1988 and 1991, respectively. Left ARA Services, who had taken over Means, and worked with my father as a management consultant, for Erickson Associates, for a year, or so.
Was asked to work for Young Life, a non-denominational youth ministry, in the Tinley Park area. After 11 years, Young Life decided to leave the area so More to Life Ministries was created to continue doing high school youth ministry. Concurrently coached at Andrew HS in Tinley Park, coaching girls softball, boys basketball and girls basketball. for Aramark Services. During this time, added 2 more children to the family!
Worked for Aramark for 6 years and left to work in the security field. Worked with Guardsmark LLC, starting as a security officer, moving to site supervisor, then management and finally Manager of Chicago metropolitan area. Guardsmark was eventually purchased by Universal Protection Services and was made District Manager. After 9 months, I left to take care of my mother's estate, who had recently passed away.
Joined RAILS, an interlibrary loan delivery company, in 2016, staying for 2 years, before I returned to the security field when my previous boss called for my help. Worked for SecurAmerica for 2 years until they were purchased by Allied Universal Services, the largest security firm in the US. Returned to RAILS, where I currently work and will continue until I retire.
Oldest 2 sons are now married, with one child each, oldest daughter working for Amazon and 2 youngest both in college.
