Doug's Story

Well, after H.S., Susan (Frye) and I were married a week after graduating, then two weeks later I went into basic training for the United States Air Force. Our son Jake was born in November and shorty thereafter we moved to New Hampshire. We lived there for 7 years, enjoying the ocean, mountains, snow skiing, fishing/hunting, and Boston (GO REDSOX!!!). Our two daughters were born in N.H., and Nicole graduated from MG in 2005 and Georgia will graduate this year. In 1990 we moved to Utah (yep), land of the Mormons. We really enjoyed ourselves because the mountains were basically right outside our back door. I enjoyed hunting and fishing there...really good stuff. The snow skiing was out of this world good....best in the world. In 1993 we moved to Okinawa Japan and loved living where we could see the ocean all the time. The beach life was awesome, the people pretty decent, and the golfing exceptional. While there we went to Tokyo (and Disneyland), Alaska, Hawaii, and Susan went shopping in Korea. In 1997 we moved to Northern California and lived there for two years. We tried our hand at panning for gold, but that resulted in maybe a flake the size of a fleas ass. And we snowed skiied like demons possessed. Gret fun. We also went to San Diego, LA, and hit the theme parks too (Disney, Knottsberry Farms, and one other I can't think of right now). In 1999 we moved to Germany and had a great time livi...Expand for more
ng with the krauts. Yes they do have exceptionally good beer, brats, and castles. We traveled to Paris a lot, Belgium, and several other countries. The kids even vacationed in the Italian Riveria twice. Susan went to London, Nicole went to the Chech Repulic, and Jake went all over. I went to Romania and the Black Sea, Suadi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, UAE, Dubai, and back to Germany. In 2003 I retired and we moved back to Fairmount, but I still haven't figured out why since Jake now lives in Huntsville, AL and Nicole lives in Albuqureque, N.M. Jake got his Masters degre from BSU in Muncie and Nicole completed two years at IUK. Georgia is heading to IU in Bloomington in August. I etched out a Masters degree while in the service...I'm DONE WITH SCHOOL! Well, you never know, but I'd be reluctant to try a doctorate degree. I went to work in INDY until all those people started building houses in Noblesville and Fishers, making my commute too long. In 2007 I went to work at the Marion Veterans Affairs hospital in the Human Resources Office...and no I won't get you a job, you have to do that yourself. It's been a challenge but a good one. Our plans are to enjoy our kids and our health cause you never know what's around the corner. If you want to get together, give me a call (in the book) and lets golf, fish, hunt, tell lies about how great we were, whatever. I hope to see all of you the 2nd of August, 2008!
